Badly need style advice for wedding!

I am going to a family wedding next month and I really need some help. I am a bit clueless when it comes to fashion, I can barely colour co-ordinate, I own two pairs of high-heel shoes, and generally go for comfort and buy in charity shops. So it is a bit stressful thinking about how to dress for this event as the rest of the women in my family are very well-dressed and I don't want to be scruffy looking!

I bought two dresses, but I don't know what to wear in terms of shoes, jacket, bag, accessories etc.

The first dress is very like this except it has a cowl-neck:

The second dress is an Oasis dress and a bit short so I would probably have to wear tights with it?

I am a 26 year old size 10, 5'8, and I can't wear high heels very well unless I'm strapped into them and they have a good heel.. I have asked for advice from people already and they said I would need to start working on my fake tan and should get a black blazer for the first dress.. Now while I am open to all ideas, the thoughts of having to pile on tan when I never wear any, kind of makes me want to just stay at home :(

I have had a look around the shops but it is very hard when I don't even know what colours I should be looking at! Also I only have a budget of about 100euro max!!

If anyone could give me any advice at all it would be very much appreciated, I am just a disaster when it comes to these things and feeling very very unstylish :(:( Please help!

Don't feel pressurised into wearing fake tan if you don't want to. Despite what some people it is not essential and can look horrible on some people.

Definitely don't feel pressurised to wear fake tan if it's not your normal thing.

No matter which dress you choose, I would always recommend wearing tights. Bare legs are terrible looking, particularly when goose-pimply in winter.

The first dress is probably more my favourite, as I think the second may be slightly too short for a wedding. Given that the wedding is in November, I'd wear a winter coat over the dress to the church, and keep a light cardigan of some kind for the reception.

I agree. Bare legs look terrible in cold weather. The second dress would be great for a night out but may not be dressy enough for a wedding.

A jacket like this might be nice if the colour was right. http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Petite/ASOS-PETITE-Exclusive-Jacket-With-Gem-Embellishment/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2305506&cid=13632&sh=0&pge=7&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Nude

    Here is another. http://www.asos.com/ASOS-Petite/ASOS-PETITE-Exclusive-Jacket-With-Embellishment/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2410373&cid=13632&sh=0&pge=8&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Black

Bring the dress with you when you go shopping so you can try on both together.

If you are wearing black tights wear black shoes. If you are wearing natural tight you cold go for a gold shoe. Don't wear sandals with tights.

The first dress is lovely! Arent you lucky it sounds like you've a fabulous figure.

I never wear fake tan either and at that time of year you would certainly be better off wearing tights. Black tights and a pair of shoes like mid heel courts and you'd look lovely. A blazer could look good too.

(I never bother buying very high heels as I know I wont wear them. 3 inches is the limit for me. Cant abide platforms either)

Don't wear fake tan, especially not in November
They're just saying it because a lot of people don't know any better and think you have to

The first dress with a cardigan will be nice

Thank you for the replies! I don't know if I can wear black tights with the first dress, it seems a bit 'harsh' or something?

I would. Get nice ones. I'm a huge fan of wolfords. They look and feel fabulous on and they last for ages! Get tights with a matt finish and reasonably opaque.

    Then wear natural tights.

Here is a nice idea for a shoe. They have a strap so are easier to walk in.

A bag like this you would get a lot of wear out of in the future.

Because the first dress is pretty simple, you could go with patterned tights.

The first dress is very pretty! It's the kind of dress that really looks better if you have pale skin, rather than a fake orange tan.

I know these shoes are ridiculously expensive, but something similar might be nice with the dress: http://www.asos.com/Robert-Clergerie/Robert-Clergerie-Quarto-Tbar-Heeled-Shoes/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2448051&cid=6461&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Green Maybe a different colour though. Those kind of shoes would be easy enough to walk with with all the straps. And you wouldn't freeze your toes since it'll probably be pretty cold in November!

I agree with you on not wearing black tights with the first one - I just think it would take alot away from the dress and also with the material that it is - the dress could end up almost "sticking" to the tights if you know what i mean?! I agree about the tan - dont wear it if you dont want to, however as a suggestion i have used fake bake and st tropez in the past and they are very easy to put on yourself as they are coloured so you know where you are going and they can come out very natural too - hate that oompa loompa look myself!
I think in terms of a jacket a nice blazer would do the trick - i think you should try H&M/dunnes for one - they usually have a good selection!
Also you will need a bag, ive been lucky in the past, getting nice plain clutches in dunnes, considering some of their stores are starting to put out xmas stock you might pick up a handbag that they have for sale for the xmas parties! If your wearing a cowl necked dress then you might be ok for a necklace but does the cowl come down far - would your neck look bare without one?! I think your budget considering you already have the dress is very do-able!

(im sorry ive just realised ive wrote an essay!)

I agree with all the other posters, you certainly don’t need to use fake tan, I never do. I am Irish and pale so deal with it! Fake tan very rarely looks good, so don’t worry about it if you aren’t comfortable with it.

I am going to go against the grain here and say I actually like the second dress from Oasis, I think it is cute and funky. I think it would look great with a pair of shoe boots and you could wear black tights with it. It does look quite short on the model, how short is it on you? I think you can get away with slightly shorter when you are wearing black tights with it. I definitely wouldn’t be wearing black tights with the first dress, would be too much. Debenhams do flesh tone tights that are very natural looking and almost look like bare skin. Be careful you’re tights don’t have a shiny finish and don’t be tempted to go a shade darker to try and make yourself look tanned, that looks awful!

They are both lovely dresses though, which are you most comfortable with?

Sorry it took me so long to return to this thread but after trying on lots of different shoes and googling 'mid heel courts' along with the other websites you have given me I finally bought something to go with my dress!
    225582.JPG

I love them, I can walk in them, it's the most money I've ever spent on shoes so I'd want to like them! Going with a matching scarf/wrap as I will be wearing a warm black coat over the dress on the day and I'd like a bit of colour with it. Borrowing the scarf and a bag off an aunt as I've blown my budget on the shoes! Oh well!
I also bought good quality natural tights in Debenhams. Very much looking forward to the day out now. Thanks for your suggestions :):)

Those shoes are soooooo cute! Where did you get them? Did you decide to go with the first dress?

I would wear the first dress with tights a black opague and then wear a chanel inspiried short jacket over the dress maybe with grey tones. wold look gorgoues and some black court shoes.

Love the shoes..have had my eye on them for a while and from experience with irregular choice you will definitely last longer on the dance floor with your heels on!!

Yes, they are Irregular Choice and I got them in Schuh. They are surprisingly comfortable and the unusual shape of the toe is lovely. They were 100euro but I got a 15euro voucher for handing in an old pair of sandals which will be recycled for charity. That definitely took a bit of the sting off handing over all that cash!
