Have IE totally done away with on board ticket inspections? I noticed on the last few IC trains I have travelled on that there was no one checking tickets.

Is this now standard policy across the network?

If you are travling towords Dublin in the morning and back in the evenings you are lightly to meet a ticket inspector at some point.

Not seen an inspector for months and I am regularly on the Carlow-Dublin runs.

There was a time you would not be in your seat in Carlow when an inspector would be on top on you looking for your ticket.

Uncle mentioned to me recently that they're cutting back on them. (he's a line inspector with IR)

There is an inspector on the 16.35, 17.35, 18.35 to Waterford most days normally 2 of the above but that could be just some days. I have being asked for tickets on any of the above services since early September and thats Friday travel and mid week times. There does be one on the 13,00 or 14.50 to Heuston most days also as well as the 07.40.

Most tickets are checked after Carlow on up trains and before on down ones,

On board ticket checkers in every train are gone with a few years, now we have the RPU (Revenue Protection Unit) or MIB(!) who travel on random trains checking and issuing hefty fines if all is not in order.

As far as I can tell, most ticket checkers have been redeployed. Some went onto RPU, others went on to other areas.
