So gentlemen this one is a straight forward question
If your heading on a night out lets say into Dublin city for a few beer and then hitting a club or a late night bar ,Do you wear shoe's or Sneakers, i would say runners but i suppose the runners people wear on nights out aren't your training type runners if you get me so im calling them sneakers :)

So night out in Dublin do you wear Shoe's or Sneaker (or runners or whatever u call them) :)

shoes are for work and weddings. runners (i.e. retro adidas, cons etc. not your airbubbly types) for all else

I own one pair of runners and they are only worn when walking to work.

Nights out it's normally boots but on occasion shoes.

I hve bout 10 pairs of runners.... :o

    3 pairs of shoes

1 pair of winter keen boots that are super warm :D

Well im a runners man myself, but i asked the question because it seems that runners are taking over , of course for wedding or any event that requires wearing slacks ill still wear shoes,
I think its cause i wear shoes in work that i prefer runners on a night out,

Cons for me, my weekend is all about comfort and i wear a tin of fruit all week in work so like to be casual in my freetime!

Shoes, shoes, shoes - runners (sneakers) are only for when I'm out running.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

Sneakers - I'd only ever wear shoes on a night out if I was wearing slacks and a shirt - which is rarely.

Currently have a pair of white Converse (which I wear most of the time), grey Nike Blazers and Ralph Lauren sneakers.

I like to wear 'boot shoes' (kind of half way between the two) if there's any chance of going to a club or something fancy. Sneakers will do for anything up to pints in the local.

I like wearing runners but its a bitch if you get stopped going into a pub/club because you don't have shoes on.

Very rarely wear shoes, weddings, interviews, etc. for a night out in town I'd be wearing cons or somethin similer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭Sugar Free

    Only ever lace up shoes.

Rarely wear anything that's not a 'runner'. I hate boots and shoes, they're generally so uncomfortable and heavy with little or no groundfeel. I was at a wedding last week (necessitating dress shoes) and my feet were sore from all the dancing (or general flailing of limbs)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,671 ✭✭✭BraziliaNZ

    I wear both

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,904 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

I would only wear shoes going to a wedding.

On an average night out a comfy pair of runners do the job nicely, especially if going on a night out to the city where a bit of walking would have to be done between venues.

Duh bring a pair of sneekers with nip up stairs after the first dance and change your shoes done it so many times :D

no one gives a crap at that stage :)

Would wear shoes if I knew the bouncers were strict etc, but usually were sneakers/runners

Shoes - unlike most here it seems I haven't owned a pair of "runners" since I was about 14

Wear both. I'm wearing shoes/boots more lately, I like them. I'm going to wear them more often.

Shoes for work and runners during the summer months for casual wear. My favourite footwear for going out are my New Rock boots, which are metal studded with a good platform sole.

do you tuck your plaid shirt into your daddy jeans as well?

Shoes if I'm wearing a suit or pants on a formal-ish night out, have runners from retro adidas to skechers which are super comfy and go with everything and cons for just throwing on for whatever.

    That's a bit much isn't it?

Just because you think wearing trainers with pretty much everything is a good look doesn't mean everyone else does.

He coulda said that without the condescending tone, as if anyone who wears runners is a child.

Runners/sneakers whenever possible. Sometimes boots on a pissy winter's night.

I really don't like shoes, especially those Rumplestiltskin ones, ugly fucking things.

The brown shoes that look sort of like brown trainers are a pet hate of mine. Stuff like this:

My Dad has a pair of them:o At least he does'nt go clubbing.:pac:

LOL, you've just described the type of shoes I wear!! I like wearing pointed shoes at work and cowboy boots outside of work. I just like that style. For some reason, the cowboy boots generate a lot of comments (even from strangers). I sometimes get slagged but more often than not, complimented on them. I'm not a trainers/sneakers fan.

Runners most of the time, shoes only for work or something formal.

Thread could do with a poll.

    Campers

+ 1 for campers. Have four pairs in various styles ranging from shoes to high top trainers.

As for nights out, trainers all the way.

    Campers

They are expensive, but last for ages, well worth the money I think...

Campers ain't cheap but they last for years and they're gorgeous. I have one pair now that are almost three years old and still look great and I have walked miles and miles and miles in them.
You can find some bargins on ebay and if you're ever in Spain around the time of the sales, you could pick up a pair for as little as fifty euros.

They do indeed. Not the dubes though, they seem to be exclusively for Irish rugger jocks. Most "Tory folk" bands would wear the boat shoes....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,554 ✭✭✭Pat Mustard

I woulda thought they wore loafers or something non-mainstream. Interesting.

Those hipsters are something of a puzzlement to me, lately.

Runners for me all the time. I own only one pair of shoes, kind of winter rain proof ones, hate them because they are so heavy... but proved to be useful with the snow. Didn't fall on the ice or frost at all :D

    +1 Bouncers....

Pubs that stop you for wearing trainers, I think, are pubs you don't want to go near anyways.... pretentious sh*t boxes....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭jaffacakesyum

Not that I particularly care (as in it wouldn't make a difference in terms of a guy I'd like) but I think if you're going out to a club it's nice to put in the effort and wear a pair of nice shoes. You don't see too many girls wearing old runners to clubs :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,863 ✭✭✭seachto7

    I suppose. I don't go to nightclubs, so I wouldn't know.....

you can still look good in runners though, I dont think any clubs stop people for wearing runners anymore, fashions change, and they're probably just glad for the business. If you're wearing a pair of actual Nike running shoes is one thing, a decent pair of classic adidas or skechers something is pretty common to see on nights out and bouncers wouldnt care. Must have a suiting up night soon they're always a laugh.

Ironically, I find it's not the so called pretentious or trendy clubs that have a no trainers policy but the clubs in rougher areas that draw a dodgier crowd that seem to have such policies. You then have the skanger types turning up in those places in cheap 10 euro Penneys shoes....

Just for the record...sneakers are hot footwear. Well cons style ones anyway.

And any establishment that doesn't allow them is not an establishment I'd like to go to.
