Not on the day but they would walk the course before the tourny starts, sometimes without the player. Every player would expect different things, they would all take notes not sure if they would actuall putt themselves the pro would generally do that themselves. So yes and yes.

I remember a few years ago, the european seniors was being held in Powerscourt and I was playing there on the tuesday of that week .... the caddies were there in advance and most played the course taking notes and practicing certain putts. I talked to a few in the clubhouse and was told it was usual that the caddies arrived early to have their homework done in advance of their paymaster arriving. All I can say is that it sounded like a right pain in the butt as should they get it wrong or be unable to answer a question .... then they would get an earful.

Anyone who thinks being a caddy is a handy number or in some way glamourous is living in cuckoo land.

Many caddies are millionaires. Snedeker's caddy presumably got 10% of the big 10 million fedex bonus!

Just because you get paid well doesn't make it glamorous!

Only the top end of the caddies group, like the golfers, make the big bucks!

Most are on a weekly fee with bonus for making the cut/top tens/wins etc

I read an article in one of the magazines over the summer about a lot of caddies living from month to month. Only the top 5-10% on the tours make good money. A lot turn up in the car park of the club the tournament is played and get picked out by the pro that way. Don't fancy it myself.
