    Hi all!
I hope I'm asking this in the right place, have been lying awake thinking about it all night and google isn't helping!!
    So anyway....
For various reasons (mostly financial) I haven't been able to drive my 03 corsa for about 3 months, I had been starting it weekly and letting it run for a while up until about 2/3 weeks ago when the battery died. Just the day before the battery went it started making a horrible growling noise when I started it-like the noise it makes when the revs are too low and it's close to cutting out-best description I have!
I'm hoping to have it back on the road in the next week or two but after reading some stuff I found on google I'm terrified the engine has rusted away or all kinds of other horrible car destroying things that aren't fixable.

I'm really really hoping its not a big deal and fairly easily sorted!! Would love some opinions please?
    Thanks!

Did it make this noise when it was actually running, or when you were trying to start it? Are all fluid levels ok? Any wet patches under the car?

You might have an airlock in the cooling system .
Plus u can get a solar battery charger firstly cheap and they will keep the battery topped up

I'd a car I didn't start for 6 years and its still perfect so I wouldn't worry about the engine rusting away!

First thing I would do is recharge the battery or get a new one and take it form there, the noise could have been from the battery on the way out. Like has been said make sure all your fluid levels are ok too.

Thanks for the replies, the noise happened as I started it, I left it running for a while and it gradually quietened but didn't go away completely. The next day the battery was dead. Checked all the oil/water things and all are fine!
Ok I will get the battery started again and hopefully that'll help.

Probably the battery slowly discharging over the few months as its not getting a proper run to charge it fully. The noise might be a slipping belt, so the last time you got it started, the alternator placed a heavy load on the engine to try and charge the battery. This might add up up with the noise disappearing with time, cos the battery will charge a little, and place less load on the alternator.

Get jump leads, start up, and take the car for a good run, or get a battery charger and try a good charge for a few hours.
