Question about buying a second hand car

    Hi,

    I hope this is the right forum for this sort of question! I have a learner's permit (2nd one) and I really want to buy a second hand car... Well, I'd really like to buy a brand new one, but bank manager says no ;)

    Anyway, how do I go about getting it checked out in a garage, and what do I ask for - I've just never owned a car before, so I've never had to ask about anything in a garage. Would the owner generally bring it up to a garage that you'd be comfortable with?

    Also, does anyone have any tips/recommendations as to where to maybe try, what to look out for? I'm living in Cork, so somewhere near would be great. I haven't done that much driving, and I'd be looking for a beginner's car.
