im looking for a new laptop with a max budget of 800. i want an i5 processor at least. i duno what kind of i5 is the best. i know i can only get the GT630(right name?) graphics card for my budget..well as far as ive seen anyway. id like 500gb hdd minimum and ideally 8gb ram but 6 would also be fine. i know they can be upgraded easily later on.id want usb 3.0 and a hdmi port would be my biggest need.

i will use the laptop for general use like surfing the web, transfering files to ps3, downloading LOTS of 1080p movies and music(movies going to ps3, hdd wont get filled too easily) id LIKE to play some high end games..just have the option to play them like..but its not a nessesity , so the graphics card above will be the minimum i want. i want it to last a number of years and not feel soo slow like my current one after a while.

you boardies reccomended me this before http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_Z580_1206320.html i really like this laptop and its got everything i could ask for bar the minimum high end gaming required graphics card. would a 50 euro more or so laptop be better than this? i could cut down on the hdd space and get a better processor laptop if that can be done?

would i get better value for money with getting my laptop built on one of those websites that you pick your own specs on? i really wouldnt know what kind of specs to be choosing though.

sorry if i asked some stupid questions, im not up to date on the latest computer specs and not really savvy that way either.

    In a word, yes.

For example, the Genesis IV with a Core i5 3210M, 8 GB RAM, GT 640M and a 500 GB HDD will cost you €740.

If you want an even better graphics card, go for the Optimus IV which comes with a GTX 660M and full HD display. With a Core i5, 4 GB RAM and a 250 GB HDD it's slightly outside your budget, €840. The nearest offer to that would be a similarly specced Lenovo for €949 at Komplett while the Optimus IV with the same configuration (8 GB RAM, 750 GB HDD) will cost €904.

The GT 640M is a lot better than a GT 630M but still not exactly "high end games" material. For such games you really want the GTX 660M.

Other benefits: both laptops have a 2nd HDD bay, they're easy to upgrade later, an OS installation disk is included and they're covered by a 3 yrs warranty.

the genesis iv seems to have the same specs but with less HDD space..how is it a better laptop then? i really really like the lenovo z580. its got style and the specs id like. im not sure about a built laptop cos ive never had experience in that kinda stuff. id kinda feel safer going for a prebuilt one. also, id love to avail of that windows 8 offer on all the laptop websites.

you certainly know your stuff, ive read alot of your posts while going through the threads as research..saying that, ill actually give pcspecialists a good study :)

The Genesis IV wouldn't be better than the Lenovo Y580 but I'd certainly prefer the Optimus IV. I only chose the small HDD and 4 GB RAM to keep it closer to your budget.

You didn't mention your preferred screen size. If you don't mind a 12" display, the Inferno is a cute little beast featuring a GT 650M. With a quad Core i7 3610QM and 8 GB RAM it will cost you €827 (incl Windows 7 DVD and 3 yrs warranty).

i think ill actually stick with the lenovo. i duno why but i really want this one :) ill use the spare budget money to buy a new ipod for myself also. thanks alot for the help. (i think it was you who introduced me to the z580 a few weeks ago)

I believe, you're referring to this offer?

The Genesis IV would be a better deal again. With a Core i7 3610QM (faster than the 3612QM) and a GT 635M (better than the GT 630M), 8 GB RAM and a 750 GB HDD it will cost €788, pretty much the same when you add delivery. But the Optimus has a 2nd HDD bay (begging to install a SSD ;) ) and 3 yrs warranty.

But as I said, if you really want to play "high end games", you do not want a GT 630M. Do not settle for anything less than a GT 650M or GTX 660M.

P.S.: if you really want Windows 8, then wait 3 weeks rather than buying now and pay €15 for the upgrade later.

OK, good luck with it... but you should really check the game benchmarks for the GT 630M. Current popular games are virtually unplayable at high or highest settings.

Like most other PC makers, PC Specialist offers a Windows 8 Upgrade.

I don't know how it works, probably just a voucher which you can redeem. You can probably download some OEM ISO and when you buy the upgrade you'll get a license key, simple as that.

hmm pcspecialists looks very tempting now :) ill post on this thread on what i decide to buy in the end(will be 2-3 weeks from now)

im planning on sellingmy current laptop on adverts.ie. its a sony vaio VGN-NS10L. got typical wear and tear like a 4 year old laptop should have. bit slot at times but im guessing when i whipe the HDD for selling, the laptop will speed up.

processor - intel pentium dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00 GHz

    ram - 3GB

    HDD -298GB

OS - windows vista home premium 32bit

gets very hot sometimes when im working it hard and it fails to do things sometimes. the "page up" button is missing also.

what im asking is, how much can i sell it for? im thinking 150 maximum? its in grand shape for average internet surfers.

the money i make from it could be what makes me get a pcspecialists laptop.
