Rebuilding a lapsed body - Fitness help request

    Hello all,

First off, new to this forum and more or less to Boards.ie, but I've been a browser for years and look forward to getting involved. Hooray! :D

I've had a strange relationship with fitness, and it's only really in the past two years that I've started taking it seriously (probably to my long-term detriment). I've recently finished four years at college and now that I'm a "working man", I'm looking at threading back a regular gym routine into my life. Unfortunately, I've also come off three months of jobless isolation in the countryside which led to me getting a touch depressed and pudgy; all I did was eat crisps and play Skyrim. :p

Right now, I'm 21 years old, 5'10", and approx. 11st. I'm getting a little portly around the midriff and scrawny in all the wrong places. From about September 2011 to February 2012, I did Starting Strength, and by the end of it, on a good day, I could deadlift 100kg, squat about 90, and bench 50. Since then, as I said, it's all gone to naught, but I'm not a total gym amateur.

I'm still weaning myself off the crappy student diet, too. For breakfast, I opt for whatever cereal is cheapest (which can be junky); at work, my lunch is ham and cheese sandwiches; and at home, supper can be a curry, noodles, an omelette, or if I'm feeling adventurous, a proper meal of chops and vegetables. This has to change, I know, but I'm not sure what I should be changing to exactly.

Basically, I'm looking for advice and guidance on how to get back into shape. I want to bulk up to a degree but remain lithe enough, and with good muscle definition and good overall fitness, flexibility and stamina. I'll be joining a gym soon - what's the optimum routine I should be doing at my body mass and for my goals? Should I be taking any dietary supplements, like protein powder? (I've used Fitness Factory whey protein in the past, but I'm not sure if it had any effects.) And what sort of diet should I be looking at formulating? Does anyone know of a good Monday-to-Sunday meal plan that incorporates the stuff that I should be taking in?

Apologies for asking all the run-of-the-mill newbie questions, but I'm actually very keen for some local advice!

    Thanks all!
