I would think that they are reliable, but the power supply unit and the remote might be a different matter. They look as if they are supplied with a two pin plug type brick. You should look for a UK plugged version of the PSU, and if possible one with a higher output so it is under less stress.

Also, the IR sensor is usually a stick-on one. You might want to rethink that as it might fall off. It does not need to be on the front of the TV, just where it can be 'seen' by the remote.

Have you seen the little Xoro boxes. They fit in your hand.

I have not seen these particular boxes, but I can see the power supply and it has two pins.

I wouldnt encourage anyone to buy those 9v adaptor boxes. The power supply is a risk even with an earth.

The little Xoro boxes I am talking about are actually a box. They are about a quarter the size of an ariva. And the arivas are small. The little xoros are dvb-t only.

    .

Have you actually tested any of these PSU's , seems like any time a Chinese sourced psu is mentioned here , somebody launches a scaremongering rant

    Sometimes with good reason!
I had a cheap Chinese mains to USB adapter nearly explode.

The feedback circuit was interrupted & caused the switching transistor
to burn out, got nice but brief light show, loud bang, then smoke.

Took it apart for a look, simple design, appeared to isolate the mains from the low voltage side, but it was just cheap parts.

PCB was too thin, USB connector was too heavy & even with the little use
it got, it soon developed a micro fracture on the circuit board.

Sure was glad there was nothing connected to the USB cable when I plugged it in.

Sometimes it's wise to be wary of cheap PSU's :(

I think the voltage on those boxes is actually 5V @ 2A and should not have an earth. They are properly insulated.

They are usually fine and made in the same type of factory that makes the phone adapters used by Nokia, Apple, Sony, etc. Just because they come from China does not make them rubbish - even the Apple iPhone is made in China. The power supplies use switched mode which makes the efficient and run cool. They should carry the EC mark.

Having said that, they need to be sourced from a reputable supplier as there are many rubbish ones in circulation, with no proper safety measures in them - if they are super cheap, then .............

The ones with UK plugs are the ones to get, but do get them from a reputable source. My experience with the ones I dealt with were that they were excellent, but I did get mine from a reputable source.
