    Hey everybody,

I have a Sony kdl-32bx300. There is a USB port on the side. I plugged in an old external hard drive which has a power supply and it read and played all the movies pictures and music no problem. I then put in a flash drive and again no problem. Both are formatted to fat32. I then bought a new 1TB external hard drive which receives power through the USB. I formatted it to Fat32 and put on videos on it. How ever for whatever reason the tv wont read anything off this new drive. Any ideas what may be the problem?

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Well it has to be power related, did you look up your TV model and see what the max current the usb port can supply ?

That was one of my initial ideas but I have another 2.5 inch drive that is self powered and it works on this TV in the same port, so it may be something to do with the hard drive itself, the hard drive does work with my PC & laptop so it is actually working as it should except with the TV.

Check the TV settings, maybe you need to format it through the tv

There unfortunately isn't an option to do that.

I'd say its power related also, try connecting it via a powered USB hub and see if it works

I have 2 USB powered HDDs I use on my LG TV. Both work when connected directly but they both will not work using the same lead. And only one will work using a USB extension lead. Try a powered USB hub.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. just for the sake of anyone who is interested it turns out the problem was the tv cant recognise USB3 connections for some reason. i removed the hard drive and put it in an old USB2 case i had and its now working fine.
