Right so have been putting it off for quite a few years now, wee lad is 5 and looking for playstation 3. I had the other 2 but didnt get the 3 as wanted to spend time with him and the wife, he wants 1 now which is great cause i can go back to my youth and play like a 15 year old to all hours of the night but what im asking for here is type of games me and him could play on this. He is quite advanced on games consoles as he plays them in my mates when we go to visit. So any ideas please????

Only my opinion but dont think the ps3 has much to offer a 5 yr old, id go the wii route.

i know were your coming from but he has heart set on it, we have the wii its been in press as long as i remember. It would just be a bit sad to see his face christmas morning and no PS3 sitting their waiting on him :(:(:(

I would agree, if you want to play games with him. It might be best to go the wii route as it has many party games and sports games and mario kart? If its ps3 I could only really suggest Little big planet as it dosnt seem violent. It would also depend on what type of games he plays or you would allow him to play?
http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Family-Friendly-Fun-Families/lm/R3TOL3KEPG9N29 Amazon seems to have a nice list of family games, but if you but just make sure your on the right amazon :)

Let's keep the game suggestions to the age group involved.

I doubt very much that boards.ie would condone suggesting adult themed games for a minor.

Also, OP is requesting PS3 games. Lets stay on topic.

OP is happy enough to let his 5 year old play Call of Duty, so seems fair enough to suggest a variety of games? I wouldn't let my 5 year old play it, but still.

Any of the lego games, maybe Little Big Planet with a bit of help. If you got Playstation Move, there would be a few more to choose from too, like Carnival Games (actually might not be called that, but Carnival something). Not a great game, but my kids enjoyed it for the while we had it. Eye Pet is a time killer for the kids too. ModNation Racers if you want a racing game.

The Marvel Ultimate Alliance games on the PS3 are good fun and a good co-op experience. They are beat'em ups but you could consider the violence to be of the comic book variety rather than realistic.

Toy Story 3 is also a great game for younger gamers and it won't totally bore you. Has a great co-op mode too. Finally I would also recommend any of the Ratchet & Clank games.

lego batman 2: dc super heroes
    jak and daxter hd collection
    little big planet
+1 with ratchet and clank games

    ps move games
    eyepet
    sorcery
    sports champions
    start the party

LittleBigPlanet would be a good place to start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 Battleborn

Little big planet would be a definite, there's a lot of Disney games out that he would probably enjoy too and most lego games would be enjoyed like lego batman, lego pirates of the carribean..they've a lego game for pretty much everything so whichever is preferred! Also would that I've found is alot of fun and enjoyed by all ages is the Playstation move,it's a lot of fun for all the family and most games for it are suited to children anyway,I would recommend start the party

Kids love the Move party games as they can see themselves on screen anything else like little big planet or maybe mod nation racers would be good fun.

Either way the Ps3 will most likely end up full of jam or toast before too long :D

As per usual with these threads, my recommendation goes to Rayman Origins hands down. It's utterly fantastic fun with either solo play or with the two of you two together.

OP - I am going to go back to the first response here.
Please think very carefully about this - in my immediate family we have first hand experience of one child being exposed too young to adult themed games. Parenting there really messed up.

Remember - sometimes to be the parent you have to do what is in the long term interests of the child even when that means you appear to break their hearts.

So like the others please consider
    Wii
    Wii-U
    DSi
    Outdoor activities.

Not kidding about my family member here... Just wish his parents had the foresight all those years ago to just say no. :(
Sorry if this isn't what you want to read but felt I had to put it out there.

But having a Wii doesn't shield you from exposure to adult games. Just buy age appropriate games on the ps3, a 5 year old won't be popping into hmv with 50 euro to buy Call of Duty.

Having a Wii may not completely shield from adult games, but it massively reduces the availability of adult games.

Unscientific but looking at the lovefilm website, searching for wii games with 15 certificate or above yields 87 results from a total of 1,100 games, 15 of those are 18 certificate. So, over a thousand wii games are playable by a larger family audience.

Searching the same on ps3 yields 326 results from 849 games, 128 of those are certificate 18. Just over 500 "suitable games"

OP - did some searching - have a look at this from Sony:
    http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/security.html

Personally I love the PS3 and 360. So know where you are coming from. Be clever with your password - change it every so often as kids are smart and soak up information very fast.

This way you get the best of both worlds.
    Games for you.
Age appropriate games for your kid
Blu Ray and all the rest.

Sorry if I dragged this one off on you.

I have a son who is now 9, but has been playing games since he was 3, the bad father that I am!
I have had Wii, DS, PSP, 360 and PS3 for much of this time.
The only console he was vaguely interested in playing was the Wii, and he is games mad.
As for the 360, he showed some interest in the Kinect before it gathered dust, atop the tv.
The 360 though came into it's own with older games like Viva Pinata, Kung Fu Panda and the Lego franchise all being a big pull and costing very little to pick up.
The Skylanders games are where it's at right now and they are about to launch the next one, Skylanders Giants. These are like kiddie crack, and lots of fun too.
They are available on the 3DS, 360, PS3 and Wii.
Personally, I would have to recommend either the Wii or 360 for a child that age.
There is a massive catalogue of titles for both that kids can play and enjoy.
And the 360 is a good entry point into gaming in general.
I would also recommend the DSi but bear in mind the available games on the shelves are already starting to shrink.

Personally, the 360 wins over all, a well stocked XBLA with lots of good games and the aforementioned back catalogue.
The PS3 is a good machine, but PSN isn't as well appointed with decent games for kids and the selection of games for kids just isn't as good.
The PS3 scores with the availability of the Bluray drive, but loses out on the ridiculous update and installation times when you want to play something new. You better have a decent broadband package and no download limits!

If he's as advance as you think and into driving games why not gt5 or some wrc games and get a steering wheel can pick them up cheap these days I'm sure I've seen them for €30ish

Don't forget too ps1 games are backwards compatable ie crash bandicoot and the like
