I just bought a car with 2 Kormoran Runpro B Tyres on the rear. There in very good nick with almost 6mm thread and are 2 years old. Any one know much about the tyres? Never heard of them myself.

Will be replacing the front two (there 10 years old!) but not sure should I replace the back one aswell.

I believe they are a Polish company owned by Michelin. I don't know for sure, but they are probably decent.

They're actually Serbian, but owned but a major brand.
Had 4 of them (Well probably different model), decent enough. The ones I had had weak sidewalls though, I've had several punctures from bits of shrub lying on the road.
Other than that they gripped well and lasted well, so would not have any major fears about them.
Also, just because I had a few punctures, doesn't mean anything, they might be re-designed by now.
Had Semperite Speed Life afterwards, and they felt more spongy when cornering and didn't inspire as much confidence in the handling of the car.

They're actually Serbian, but owned but a major brand.

Kormoran tyres are and always were made by Stomil Olsztyn - a Polish tyre manufacturer.

At the moment this manufacturer is fully owned by Michelin, and Kormoran seems to be budget brand of Michelins.

I assume they might have a factory in Serbia, that's why you though they were Serbian make...

I've used them few times over last 15 years, and my opinions are as follows.
    1. They provide very descent grip, dry or wet.
    2. They wear normally.
    3. They tent to be quite weak on sidewalls, and therefore it might be easier to destroy them on potholes, than other brands. However I doubt difference is big.

I personally would prefer Debica (models like Furio or Presto), which is another Polish make (owned by Goodyear). Their tyres used to be way below quality of Kormorans, but is last 10 years they improved a lot. They are way stronger on sidewalls, and they seem to provide grip nearly comparable with top brands. Only drawback of them is they don't last too long, as rubber just cracks after few years. But generally for someone who is wearing a set of tyres withing 2 or 3 years, this shoudlnt' be a problem. Apart from that, you nearly get top brand tyre for half the price.

Incidentally I had two BFGoodrich tyres fitted to my car today and they are made in Poland also. Is there a large tyre and automotive industry there? (I've never visited the country but plan to? :o)

Because BF Goodrich is also owned by Michelin. Probably they are made together with Kormoran, Kleber, Michelin, and others in there in Olsztyn, Poland.

PS - I undestand you won't be visitng the country just to admire it's tyre industry ;P

Could very well be, mine had "Made in Serbia" written on them.

There are lots of companies doing bits for cars - dashboards, lights, electrics etc.
Tires business was always strong - and still is. Now owned, or controlled by major players...
Not to mention few factories making cars...

Kormoran, BFG and Michelien are the same company. Had a talk with some guys from there before and they told me that if the factory was very busy on 1 typs of type, say a Kormoran, the would mark a few BFG up to meet quotas.
