Buying a car for spares

    Hi all,

I'm hoping to pick up a near identical car to my own this weekend to use as a donor car. A near radiator from Ford is going to be €174+vat, but a whole car will be €400 - 600!

I have somewhere to store it, but I have some logistical issues.
My insurance reckon I'll have to get a whole new policy to allow open driving, I've got fully comp, but not the right to drive any car. They can't do it this weekend either.
So realistically, I'll need someone with Open Driving to take it from seller's place to it's resting place.

In terms of tax and insurance; I've been working from the assumption that aside from the liability of someone stealing my donor car, I've no need to get either. Is this the case? Obviously I'll have to make it such that it can't be moved and used in an accident or robbery, so the wheels and brakes are coming off first.

Anyone recommend a good place to get a second-hand workshop/structure? I could start with an old trailer tent, but something a bit more permanent would be better. A dry floor too.
At the moment I'm going to store it in some land my family owns, and visit whenever I need bits, but ideally a lock up somewhere south of the city would be better.

I know it doesn't really answer your question, but "open driving" and "driving other cars" are two completely different insurance terms.
Open driving allows anybody (usually with age restrictions, etc) to drive your car under your policy.
Driving other cars allows you to drive any car that does not belong to you and is not hired to you under a hire-purchase agreement.
