Irish Rail student question

Right long story short I bought a student return ticket last week while my student card was still in service. However the student expired two days ago. Does this mean I can't use the ticket to make the return journey or is it ok since i bought the ticket with a valid student card at the time of purchase?

    Thanks.

If your student card isn't in date then strickly speaking it's not valid as it's your proof of entitlement to concessionary fares. On this basis, your return ticket is now invalid and you will need a standard ticket to travel or a new student card.

Of course, if you are a bona fide student then you can apply for a new student card ;)

Would it not just need to be valid at the time of purchase no? That'll be clearly shown on both the card and the ticket. However, that's just me assuming.

Just one thing though, the student travel cards expire in December. Depending in the ticket type, if you are using a college Id, it might not be valid anyway.

No, you need it both for purchase and travel. OP, don't forget that the new pass is a different colour each year so yours will stand out if inspected.

I think the important point with the OP might be that he bought a ticket with his normal college student card as part of the recent promotion that IÉ have been doing - and I presume his student card from last year has now expired and he's pending getting a new one for this year - assuming his college still only issues one-year student cards?

AlekSmart loves these guys. Studying to become the clever people of tomorrow yet they can't read basic dates and stuff ;)

I know what you mean, though. The overlaps can happen :)
