Mozilla Thunderbird email problem

I've suddenly started being unable to send emails from Thunderbird. It's been working fine until the last couple of days. I can receive emails okay, but not send them. I use eircom.net, and I've been on to them to check my settings - which they say are fine.

Does anyone have any ideas about what might have gone wrong and - more important! - how to fix it?

    You getting an error messages?

Have you installed any new anti virus or firewall software?

Yes - sorry, I should have said in my original post! It just spends ages 'sending' and then I get a message saying it's timed out. And no, I haven't installed any new anti-virus/firewall software.

Who is your internet provider? Which outgoing mail server are you using?

If you're with Eircom (ISP), you may use either mail1.eircom.net or mail2.eircom.net (on port 25).

Yes, I'm with Eircom, and I've tried both mail1 and mail2. No good. Thinking of changing to gmail, but the prospect of the whole changeover business and letting everyone know is a bit daunting.

If you are on Windows 7:

    Hit Start Button
    Type cmd.exe and hit enter
In Command Prompt that opens type

    tracert mail1.eircom.net

    Post the results here.

    Okay, here goes ...
I can't work out how to attach the screen shot to this, so I'm typing it out.

    Does that mean anything??!!

Well for both of ye connection is not a problem anyway.

I would hazzard a guess that it is infact a problem on eircoms side... but its only speculation.

Thanks, Fionny - appreciate your help. I suspected it is an eircom problem, but their helpline staff are - how can I put this delicately? - a shower of retards, so how I can get a solution to the problem is beyond me at the moment.

There is that possibility... a friend just skyped me, he can't even receive mails from his eircom account (they're abroad right now), having tried all 3 incoming mail servers (webmail, mail1 and mail2).

This crowd is always trouble and moving away from them I can only recommend.
