    Hi

My brother living in the states is thinking of buying a laptop for his niece who lives here for christmas as a present. If he puts gift/present as a description on the gift , could my niece or her parents be asked to pay the vat or other taxes ?? Thanks

They WILL be asked to pay the vat.

Also, if something goes wrong, the warranty may not be valid over here.

Prices of laptops between USA and Ireland are about the same, so there's no advantage buying stateside.

A great site for refurb bank and IT co laptops is www.greenit.ie - a good dual core with open software and ready to use is about €300 and its a not for profit company (rehab)
