    Hello

Im looking to get myself a second monitor which I will have in portrait beside my other monitor.
I was wondering if any of you have experience is doing this and whether things like having two different makes will cause issues with contrasting screens? Or if one screen is a different res to the other?

any models you would recommend new/second hand?

At the moment i have a http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-W2453V-PF-lcd-monitor which is great.

    Thanks.

Two different brands will more than likely have different brightness and contrast, colour tones and so on, even the same make and model may well be different, monitors tend to slip into different setups over time.

The only way to ensure they're the same is to calibrate them regularly with something like a Datacolour Spyder. http://spyder.datacolor.com/display-calibration/

Even with that you have to recalibrate every couple of months. If you're doing any design work with photos or video you should have one of those.

hey!, thanks. What do you think of this? http://www.adverts.ie/monitors/two-dell-20-1-monitors-model-2007wfp/2128200
Dont think the drop in res is worth it but i put in an offer anyway.

I think Dell have a decent reputation on monitors but I'm of the opinion at this end of the market many monitors are probably about the same, I've even heard the panels themselves all come out of the same factory and the different brand names put their case around them, that could be a myth though. I wouldn't be too up on the ins and out of what's the best monitor to go for at the moment.

I went for screen size with my monitor, I got a fairly cheap 27". My advice would be to go for the biggest monitor you can afford, the size is a big advantage when working in photoshop.

If you're planning on sending work off to printers or different people it's very handy. Without calibration you could send work off to a printers paying a lot of money only to find it looks completely different colour wise when you get the printed work back.

Every monitor I've calibrated was way to blue and you wouldn't realise it until you've seen what a calibrated monitor looks like.

Depends what you'll have on the screen, if it's mostly text portrait, if it's picture browsing or even watching video while working on the main screen landscape would be best.
