Co-Op Stores located in Counties Clare, Tipperary, Limerick and Cork, are offering a Saorview and FTA (Free to Air) Satellite installation package for €259.

    The package includes:
    • Ariva 150 Combi Box (receives Saorview and FTA satellite channels)
    • Satellite Dish
    • Outdoor Digital Aerial for Saorview
    • Installation
    • 12 Month Warranty
Considering the Ariva 150 box alone is about €100, this seems like good value. Probably only available within a certain radius of Co-Op Stores.

Its a great price but i'd check that the installer is carrying full public liability insurance before going ahead.

I'm pretty sure the ARIVA box isn't saorview approved...

It is'nt, in fairness to the co op I don't think they are claiming that it is.

You'll get a few more than that like sky news...(bout the only decent one I can think of!) as that's the freesat list.... (which has a few less channels but better interface)

Not to turn people off what seems like a good deal but just to warn that if you get a freesat box you get a 7 day epg guide (free to air only has the program on now and the one on next) and the channels retune themselves when they change transponders, on fta you'll find that occasionally channels go blank and you have to retune.

I think freesat is worth the extra few quid (I had free to air boxes before my freesat and find it a lot simpler and the interface a lot better - but maybe I'm just lazy!) although I doubt there'd be anything comparable to this price for a freesat set up.

Not knocking the deal but it's just something everybody mightn't be aware of

Looks like a very good deal.

But the package includes a dish. What if you have your own dish already, would they reduce the price, i wonder?

True. They'll really only be missing the teletext I presume?

If you want pay channels like discovery you have to pay for them

The people who do the encryption schemes spend a lot of time and effort in making sure you can't get them for free.

.... The people who do the encryption schemes spend a lot of time and effort in making sure you can't get them for free.

Yes indeed they do. Except of course they also, break the encryption systems of rival channels, when it suits them:
A News Corporation subsidiary company used a computer hacker to sabotage Sky TV's biggest rival, BBC Panorama has reported.

Been rumbling on for over a decade .... from The Guardian 2002:
A company controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has been accused of trying to destroy rivals, such as ITV Digital in Britain, by assisting hackers to crack the secret viewer-access codes used by rival pay TV operators and then distributing the information to counterfeiters across the world.

although not saorview approved there is a big plus with this receiver...with the addition of a usb wifi dongle you can have youtube & other sites on your tv through the receiver! http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/hd-receivers/368-ferguson-ariva-150combo.html for the money that is a brilliant feature....

AFAIK it only works with some models , also it's a specific chipset you need - not all usb wifi dongles will work.

IF it's a Ferguson Ariva 150 and you have the usb dongle does this android app work as a remote control ?
