Gender rules about to hit motorists hard, says AA Ireland

There hasn't been a thread on this in a while, afaik, so I thought I would bring it up again.

AA Ireland have a report on their website, Gender rules about to hit motorists hard, and they claim very few people realise how hard the hit will be. Here's an excerpt:
Within a few weeks the first people will start receiving their insurance renewal notices and will start realising the difference that it makes. Parents with adult children as named drivers will be hit in the same way. The sons will become cheaper, the daughters more expensive.

I imagine there will be outrage when the time comes. Our advice to everyone is to do a bit of research now on how you might be affected and what you might do about it.

I would rub my wifes face in this, but as it all comes out of the one pot, its Just robbing peter to pay Paul. I'm up for renewal soon, but before New rules come in Is this a bargaining chip to get a better quote?

I would be highly surprised if it made that much of a difference.
Especially if the insuree is over 30.

The AA is predicting lower charges for young male drivers. It will be interesting to see whether insurance companies agree.

I guess older drivers and married couples will see less of an impact?

Possibly. But the 18-25 market is going to be a very interesting place.

I have my doubts that the majority of men will see much of a reduction.

I received my insurance renewal on Tuesday, it has gone down a whopping €4.40 since last year

The new legislation isn't coming into effect until December.

Even still, I completely agree with Awec's post. The insurance for men won't go down. Women's insurance will just go up.

So basically, women are now subsidising mens insurance premiums.

Oh, and the insurers will use this bit of number shuffling as a convenient cover for padding their overall charges up a bit. I think we can safely say that the extra charges on women will not be deducted from those on men. Thanks a bunch EU, now is there anything else you'd like to screw us for?

Got a renewal quote for mine yesterday. (Male)

Last year €420. This year €370

    Shocked and very pleased. :)

Well, if you would prefer we could simply revert the gender rule relating to health insurance so men could stop massively subsidizing female insurance.

Basically at the moment young men are subsidising young womens premiums.

Who said equlity means everything better for women? This is true Equlity

    Which Implies
Everyone is equal... Be that cost more or less.

With the amount of accidents women drivers cause its only fitting that they should see and increase in their premiums.

I read an article about this a few months back. This isn't just for car insurance, it's for every insurance that exists and comes from some EU directive. So while men may see their car insurance decrease they will see increases in other insurances, most notably health insurance. So it will probably even out across the board.

    That's really silly
it should be based on stats
we should pay more for annuity costs on retirement, we should pay more for health if it's riskier, we should pay less for car if the overall claims/accidents are statistically lower

    Exactly this.

Insurance premiums are calculated based on risk assessment. When they take age into account, they aren't being ageist, they're just using it because age has a statistical impact on risk. Why should it be any different with gender?

Health insurance is already gender neutral.

why dont they use race then, Id imagine that would have as much of a statistical impact as gender would.
