    Hi,

Looking for a bit of help or some pointing in the right direction for information on where to start the process of looking for work abroad?

At the moment i am in full time employment but looking for a change, outside of ireland. I plan on applying for IEC 2013 win Canada but also looking at getting the ball rolling in general on applications elsewhere.

Other areas of interest might be Asia/Hong Kong as looking for a banking hub and/or IT sectors.

In terms of starting applications (is this even worth my while without a VISA?) what agencies may be able to get me some information or highlight places/roles of interest abroad, at the moment i really have idea where to start.

Is it likely that i would/could get a position abroad so that the company would bring me over and sort out any Visa constraints?

    Any help appreciated

I worked in Hk for 4 years, fantastic place with lots of access to amazing countries in Adia if you get some reasonable time off.
I worked for a US bank and most of our IT department were staffed with Hong Komg citizens and a lot of the IT managers were expats transferred by the company to the HK offices.
I would say your best bet to get a chance working there would be to get into a foreign bank here or where there head offices are and work your way up from there.

Thanks for the response, what you are saying is exactly what i have been hearing about the majority of people ending up there.

For me, it's not really feasible to wait that long.. ie get into a company here on the back of them having them switch me to HK office.

Might just have to be a get up and go.. trying to get work over there. Google searches show some jobs relevant to my skills but one thing about the job sending you if that you dont need to pay a fortune for a tiny apartment! Rent seems ridiculous.

How about Cayman Islands/Bahamas/Bermuda? Plenty of Finance/Banking positions there.

I live in China and know Hong Kong quite well.

    My advice:

It is MUCH easier to get a job when you're in the country, so if you want to work in Hong Kong, simply come here on a tourist visa (90+ days) and start looking for work. You can do a visa run to Macau to convert your holiday visa into a work visa.

PS There is a problem with my "Mr. Loverman" account. This is just a temporary account.
