Advertising a proofreading service?

    Hi there,

Hopefully it's OK to post this here since I'm not giving my details.

I'm trying to establish the best places to advertise a proofreading service, specialising in Masters and PhD theses. I regularly put up notices around the various colleges but have no control over whether they stay up/get covered/have their thumb tacks stolen. Most of the university websites don't allow non-university advertising.

If anyone has any suggestions, online or otherwise, I'd be very grateful.

    All the best,

    E.

    Hey,

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if this is allowed in the Irish system!

I know a guy who was advertising his services and a Uni administrator emailed him to let him know that if any student hired him that they would be in breach of regulations!

Better check the regulations out before you go ahead, as it would be terrible if someone was disciplined (or failed!) for this.

    Sorry to be glum!

Crikey! I've been doing it for years and haven't come across that yet. In fact a lot of students have been asked to get their work proofread (often those who aren't native English speakers). I should add that I don't critique the work as such - the content is the student's responsibility - but I make sure that it reads well, is consistent, there's no repetition, etc.

Thank's very much for bringing it to my attention though. I'll make a point of asking students to clear it first from now on.

    All the best,

    E.

I know, it seemed over the top to me as well!

Hopefully regulations are not so strict in most universities and you can keep doing your good work! :-)
