    Hi,
Bought a mk3 golf 1.9d recently an it appears to be using coolant.
It has to be topped up every 2 weeks or so, I have just had the water pump changed and there doesn't appear to be any leaks. Engine is running perfectly & no white smoke.

    thanks

Same thing happened me. I was relly worried about the head gasket too. Iad h left the bleed screw to the heater matrix open a tiny bit and never noticed. just a tiny drip coming out. It was going from max to min over two weeks. I think it was evaporating very quick with a warm engine so I couldn't trace it.

Start the engine from cold and check about with a torch. Bottom rad hoses could be leaking too. Sometimes there is a drain screw on the bottom rad hose.

Where is the heater matrix located? pretty sure there are no leaks in the hoses but i'll check. thanks

there should be two pipes going through the bulkhead to the heater in the dash. Not sure if the golfs have a bleed screw on them though.

edit:my point is a small leak will evaporate quickly with a warm engine but at the same time mightn't be visible at all without pressurizing the system, so run it cold and check. Lie under the engine and have a look too.
