    Hi lads,
I currently have a 37" LG LCD that I bought back in 2006. I've decided it's time for a serious upgrade, and I'm looking in the 46-55" range. I've a budget of about €1700 if necessary. Now, I had narrowed it down to the Samsung 46 ES7000 or the Sony KDL-46HX853, but then I got thinking. I already have a media PC attached to my TV, along with a receiver and surround sound system, so do I really need the smart features on these TVs? Would I be better off focusing purely on picture quality? If so, do these TVs fit the bill or would I be better served looking at something else?
    Thanks in advance!

Epson EH-TW6000 3D Projector will blow your mind!! ;) and also give twice, three times the screen size.

I'm sure it would! Definitely want to get a projector one day for my future man cave, but for now size constraints dictate against a projector. As an aside what do people find is the best bricks and mortar store out there?

Try currys or electro city :)

For the money your spending I'd recommend you take a look at the 55'' LG range.
I have a 55LM620T and it is a great set, and for your budget you can move up to a much higher spec in the range.
If you're looking for serious advice on a TV I can recommend the lads over on at the richersounds forum here on Boards.
I recently bought 2 TVs from them and can only say the service was exemplary, and pricewise they blew away the competition.
The advice they offer is top notch and I can vouch for their customer service too after i had an issue with 1 of my sets, they had it replaced asap.

Thanks very much for that, will have a look. I liked the look of the LGs, only hesitation I had about them was their passive 3d system.

Philips has busted out a new range of full HD 3D LED TVs over at IFA 2012 in the form of the Philips 9000 series.

The range comprises of two models. The Philips 46PFL9707 is a 46-inch television with Moth Eye Filter so it's reflection-free and offers a staggering 150,000,0000:1 dynamic contrast ratio as a result.

    I Have Philps 9 series which I got 2 years ago .
It has local dimmimg 10 million to one contrast ratio .
Everone who sees the Picture is amazed at the sharpness of the picture .
The interactive features were bad . But It a tv after all .
It,s all all about the Picture quality .
Good luck with whatever you choose..

Panasonic GT50 series is picking up rave 5 star reviews, looks to be a stunning set. Sony HX853 also very good.

Thanks very much for that, will have a look. I liked the look of the LGs, only hesitation I had about them was their passive 3d system.

I'll be honest here and say the LG passive 3D is excellent and has a few advantages over Active too(To my mind at least)
I find the active shutter systems can give me an eystrain/headache similar to that caused by flourescent lighting if I wear it for an hour or more.
I've had Samsung and Sony active 3D sets and with the headache, and the cost of glasses it was prohibitively expensive and meant any more than 3 people watching a movie got pricey and theres always the fear of breaking a pair or the battery going mid movie...
And active I find tends to work better in a ''sweet spot'' so everyone tries to sit in the same spot on the couch! haha

Whereas with LG passive(and same screens are used in Toshiba and Panasonic passive TVs too) you have a very wide horizantal viewing range for 3D, that side there is a limitation on the vertical viewing...
The TV needs to be within a few degrees of square on to your eye or you will get ghosting(only really a problem if you are looking at the TV wall mounted with your from above or below and easily avoided with a tilting wallmount to keep the TV square to eyelevel)
I've had 16 people watching 3D sports and movies at 1 time and all enjoyed the experience and with glasses at a euro a pair I wasn't stressed out about someone breaking a pair.
Try that with an active set up....

I'm such a fan of the passive system now that I own 3!!!
    And have bought 4!
Unfortunately one went kaput, but as I said earlier....Richersounds went above and beyond in resolving that issue for me.
I currently have 2 passive LG 55's and 1 27'' passive and while its not used a lot in fairness, the 2D performance of the sets and the smart TV functions are used massively and they are a great set.
