Additional Saorview TV - aerial cable?

    Hi,

Last year my folks got two new TVs for kitchen / living room.

Both TVs were installed by a company that provided new a aerial and digital satellite boxes.

They now want to add an additional TV to the bedroom - so are thinking of buying a Saorview TV and just having the "Irish" channels there.

Question is though - how do they get the aerial though the bedroom?

My Dad is talking about "splitting" the aerial cable on the roof and running an additional one into the bedroom.

Is this even possible or what would be the best way to get a signal into to the bedroom?

    Thanks

It might be possible. If splitting a signal outdoors it would need to be a with waterproof connectors and a waterproof splitter or put in a waterproof box.

However I would not advise anyone going on the roof to try it themselves.

Splitting any cable will reduce the signal to each TV and in some cases then could cause break up. Depending on how it was installed it must be split somewhere. You may need to drill a wall to get the cable in.

I might be best to get the same person back and agree on a price to properly install the TV cable and splitter. Installers are really busy this month so possibly best to wait a month or two. If you were happy with the price and installer last time then go for them again.

If you wanted to have a go it would be best to try and split the cable indoors and ideally not have to drill from inside to outside.

Can you not use the aerial connection going into the tv nearest the bedroom?, disconnect it from the back of the telly and connect it to a booster? This would probably have a single input for the aerial but several outputs, then just add new connections from the booster box to the original tv and one to the tv in the bedroom, if the signal is strong in the first place then there shouldn't be a problem with reception.
