The Annual Ireland Vs Great Britain Team Challenge will be held on Saturday and Sunday in the Monaghan area. The top 10 anglers from the Final of the Irish Federation of Pike Angling Club`s 2011/12 Kingspan National Pike Championships will represent Ireland. We will be based in the Four Seasons Hotel in Monaghan Town. The British team will arrive at the hotel this evening. Tomorrow evening Monaghan Town Council will host a reception for the British team.
We had hoped to fish 2 river venues but they are highish and brown at the moment. Hopefully they will improve but we have some lake venues selected as back ups. This event has been going since 1992 and Ireland have a good lead in wins.
There will be presentation dinner in the hotel on Sunday night. Guest of honour will be our Inland Fisheries Minister Fergus O`Dowd T.D. Dr Ciaran Byrne CEO of Inland Fisheries Ireland will also be there along as will some local councillors
We lost the Challenge Cup in England last year. We have an exceptional team this year so we are pretty confident of a home win.
    Fingers crossed !!!

    Ireland 142 pike for 337lbs 6 ozs
Great Britain 91 pike for 196lbs 2 ozs
    Top Anglers
Laurance Marshall (IRE) 21 pike 61lbs 15 ozs
Paul Danby (GB) 17 pike 45lbs 10 ozs
John Sheenan (IRE) 16 pike 43lbs 10 ozs
Frank Leonard (IRE) 16 pike 38lbs 5 ozs
Louise Hunns (GB) 16 pike 37lbs 7 ozs
    Joe Coleman (IRE) 15 pike 33lbs 15ozs
Godfrey Donohue (IRE) 16 pike 33lbs 12 ozs
Sean Markey (IRE) 12 pike 31lbs 14 ozs
Biggest pike was a dissapointing 8-04 and was caught by Laurance Marshall
Most of the 2 day competition was fished on the Dromore System which was recovering from being in flood. It was fishable but highish and a bit coloured. Fishing was very patchy and some places that were expected to fish well simply didnt produce at all.
    More later

Fishing was very poor with most of the pike being very small. Levels were highish and water a bit coloured.
