Combi box with no satellite?

Hi, I'm living in central Dublin in a nurses home on 4 th floor. I have an old tv & rabbit ears & get good reception on Irish channels. I just bought a ferguson ariva 150 as I was told I could get uk free channels using my rabbit ears however it tuned in saorview no prob but can't get any satellite channels! Was I mis-sold or is there a way to get free uk channels without a satellite? I don't understand the lingo so basic answers pls! Also the radio channels appeared to download but now not there. Ta

U will not pick up Any satellite channels without a satellite dish, depending on where u are in the country u may have picked up more than the Saorview channels using a terrestrial aerial as some in wexford pick up some english transmitters but with a set of rabbits ear's i doubt u would have any chance..

Check that the nursing home doesnt already have a satellite dish on the roof already if they do they may be able to run a cable feed to your tv/room from it.

As steveon said the aerial only gives you the Saorview(Irish stations). The satellite cable feed from a dish will give you the rest when plugged into the same box.

By the way to access the radio channels press the F1 button at the top of the remote. It will allow you to switch between radio and TV stations (press it again to get the TV stations back).

What TV did you have before you got Saorview? Is UPC available in the building? Would the owner allow you to get a dish installed on the roof.

Yes if you were told you would get the UK channels using that box without a dish then you were mis-sold. If rabbits ears are your only option then go for a basic Saorview approved box which is cheaper.

Ya, thanks for that, it's as I figured, they just sold me the box without really knowing if it would work! Back I go tomorrow to swop it...
