Hey, normally when the cows are housed for the winter period we use white rhino lime from small bags.We got through 2 and half pallets of it last year so this year we going using the big ton bag which is 100 euro cheaper. But I was thinking of mixing shredded paper through it say 25% as well!

Anyone currently doing this? Good job? Was thinking of throwing the whole lot into the diet feeder and mixing it up for the whole winter! So 2.5ton mixed in one go. Any thoughts welcome:D

Are your cattle housed on slattes and cublicables? seen a couple of interesting idea's over on the BF forum here

I would go for Sand if it possible, easy to store although spreading might be a problem, really like the idea of green bedding a lot of interesting stuff on the net about this

Green bedding is when you pump out solids out of the slurry tank, dry and use as bedding. it's a bit more complicated than that but basicly that's it

if you serch for green bedding you will find a paper by some american group, i was surprised but it is more cow friendly than mats and concreate, Mastitis in the herd does not seem to increase by using it

Would like to see it in operation in fairness, haven't heard it been operating in ireland so it prop be expensive to set up although it reduce's outgoings on bedding etc, you would need to be set up for it, and would want a lot hand way of spredding it onto cublices
