My brother has had his vintage fully restored ford anglia stolen while at vintage show. some scum had manage to start it and drive it out of show plenty of posters etc gone out and no leads really. Has agreed valuation with insurance company 8500 but is worried for some reason if it will be debated can they for any reason refuse to pay this and if they dont how long before they will actually pay out not gotten definative answer from them as he is so busy following up and leads and asking on door to door basis for sightings. however police have siad if it does not turn up after 48 hours they consider it gone. Any and all info much appricated as he feels he should not push them too much on it.

Dont want to say where (when) as not blaming or placing blame on show organisers that would not be fair. T he organisers of show were very helpfull in ever possible way they could be but sure they cant check every car leaving is being driven by owner. Im enquiring on his behalf as to where he stands with insurance will they pay the agreed valuation of car and if so how long before he would recieve payment. also they state they could replace car with car of same value and condition but he would rather purchase new car himself with insurance money than them pick one for him, if it goes that way

Can't say where it was stolen? That's ridiculous, nobody is going to think the show organisers responsible.

If it might help get the car back, I'd post every detail of the theft.

It may be ridiculous but its not my place to say he asked that i dont mention so ill respect his request.

Throw up a few pictures of the car, it's reg and tell us in which county it was stolen.

If it's an Anglia they are rare enough and someone might spot it somewhere. Try to get people to spread the word via social media and websites, this way you have a better chance of someone spotting it.

Do this with Irish and UK sites, someone is bound to spot it.

he has it on his facebook page and posters around the local area where show was offering reward for info leading to finding the car. I m simply enquiring about the insurance aspect of it for him as i cant speak with insurance company myself wonder how long it would take for them to pay out for the stolen vehicle.

You seem more bothered about insirance paying up and keeping details low, seems that way to me anyway :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭sls

Ive clearely stated im enquiring about the insurance paying up for him. Have read stories about people waiting quite a long time before insurance company pays out for car im simply asking online as he requested of me.

As a classic car owner I would say that's a sound bit of advice.

So he has no interest in getting the word out in an attempt get the car back, but is anxious to know when the insurance will pay up?

I'm out. Good luck with that.

Like look at it this way.

Car goes missing with keys more than likely in it at an enthusiasts meet, no sign of car and owner immediately looks into claiming off insurance w/o giving out any helpful info when it went missing iwth lots of other enthusiasts around.

Hate to be so cynical but im a glass half empty kind of guy.

Insurance may not pay out if he left the keys in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭sls

I dont think anyone replying on this tread is actually reading it. Keys were not in car i never stated they were thats an assumption on your behalf, but someone who knows there way around an old car would not take much to get it started. Im simply asking to see how long insurance company would take to pay out for car is that a crime to ask. why if you have a car insured should you not look to claim off your insurance if your car gets stolen is there anyone on here would not do the same or would you simply accept it stolen and forget about it?

Note the words 'may' and 'if' in my post.

To answer your question I'd do my best to get it back, insurance would be a last resort

OP i suggest you read the "stolen audi rs2" thread, that will give you some idea of what boards could do for you if you post details and pictures, an anglia is a rare car in any county and would stand out like a sore thumb, you seem more pre-occupied with insurance and pay-outs than getting it back. why not let us help you??? what have you to lose???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭JoeySully

I have read the whole thread and to answer your question it depends on the terms and conditions of the insurance company. I don't believe anybody on here can answer any insurance related question unless the insurance policy details are provided. All insurance policy terms and conditions are different. The insurance company will have to be sure that its actually stolen before paying out!

as for the point other have made, lots of users on here are classic enthusiasts! Posting the details of the car and the location where it was stolen will give a much better chance of recovering the car, but as other have said you do not seem to want the car recovered.

Somebody somewhere knows something. I think is a bit pre mature to say that its gone after just 48hrs! perhaps for a modern car but this was probably stolen and may reappear in a year or so bearing a different Reg and chassis plate..

OP ..bit strange that your not really bothered to try find the car ?
If it was my car I'd post all possible details and pics to try get it back ASAP.

    An RS2?

:( That's a rare car... I had one of those for a while... they were wild...lovely motor.

I dont think the OP is interested in finding the car... my advice, if you want to know how long until your insurance company pays off, well, ask them, is not like you have anything to be afraid off...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 866 ✭✭✭renofan

Such a shame the op doesn't want such a nice car back. Putting up stuff like pictures, reg no, colour and the show it was taken from would be a great start for the boardsie community to help get the car back.

But alas as seeing as you are only interested in the money I suggest you ring the insurance company as they are really the only ones who can answer that, the rest of us can only guesstimate.

Now if only you were so eager to find the car......

    I don't get it?

If this was my car, I'd have pics/reg/details/location etc... And have an add on DoneDeal.

If that was done their's a chance you'll get it back, But it was stolen and your on looking to see will you get an insurance payout?

If it was mine, I couldn't care less about insurance untill I had exhausted all other options to get my car back!

I don't think the insurance will consider it gone after 48 hours, when mine was nicked it turned up two weeks later so I wouldn't give up on it yet. As the others have said I posted my car here,Facebook and every other site I'm on as I wanted the car back no mater what state it was in, so if it does turn up with only €5000 worth of damage it's still is better than €8000 for them so they will hang on as long as possible, only they can tell you when they will pay out but if it turns up burnt out tonight it should be quite soon.

What about contacting Stena Line & Irish Ferries to see if it has turned up on their CCTV (back of a trailer I presume). I guess the Irish vintage market is too small for it to be hidden/sold here, but the UK vintage car market is massive . . . . .

This story sounds a bit fishy to me.

Jesus this place should be a sub-forum of Conspiracy Theories, its not the OP's car, its his brothers. The OP has asked a question about insurance and when one person jumps to "con job" everyone else jumps on the bandwagon too. For all anyone on here know the owner of the car could be in contact with every classic car club in Ireland/UK at this stage which would be better than boards or donedeal:rolleyes:.

You can offer advise without the sinister remarks.

if he has an agreed value of €8500 then thats what they will pay out once it's assessed as a total loss.

It must be one hell of an Anglia to be valued at €8500. Must have belonged to Harry Potter I reckon.
