    Hi,
Just after getting a new job which will require me to travel from Maynooth to Athlone and back again daily, living in Athlone is not an option. Has (or is)anyone here made (making) this commute? I have a two litre vehicle which is doing about 50mpg, what sort of money does this commute amount to weekly? dont know if anyone where I will be working commutes there so this isnt really an option yet.
Any info or advise would be very much appreciated,
    Thanks!

You are looking at about 50 litres of fuel a week and either 30 euro a week on the toll plaza or lots of R road driving from Kinnegad to Maynooth via Enfield. That's the guts of a ton a week.

Hmmm no not the maths, want advice from anyone who has commuted on this journey as to how do-able it is, how expensive it works out at?
Anyone who commutes will know what I mean!!! :)

63 miles each way or just over an hour according to AA. There are worse commutes I'd imagine, this is pretty direct on a motorway.
Just the M4 tolls are like €2.70 each way which is alot compared to others. Could never figure why that one is so expensive.

    63 miles x 2 x 5 = 630 miles.

    50mpg (are you sure?) means 630/50 = 12.6 gallons.

    12.6 gallons = 57.2 litres

At €1.60 a litre fuel is €91.52 a week. Add €27 for tolls.

I agree, hard to do 50 mpg at motorway speeds and make progress!

A bus Eireann ten journey ticket is €66.98 when bought online and the journey is about 90 minutes but beware that the buses can leave Athlone 15-40 minutes later than scheduled.
