Big fan of looking after my diet, what I eat and exercise.
My downfall however is alcohol :o
I know if I want a super clean diet I should really cut it out totally, but I am not willing to do. It's something I just don't want to do.
The good thing is I only allow myself one night of drink either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

I use to drink beer but have stopped drinking it some time ago and started drinking vodka.
My problem is what to mix with the vodka ?
I usually have cranberry juice or a dash of ribianna but they are laced in sugars and carbs and rip my stomach to a point where I feel like trowing up after 2 or 3 drinks.

Any suggestion on an alternative or what would be best to mix with vodka? There's prob not a whole lot but I'd like to hear what ya'll drink!

Ya know what you mean, my downfall is wine, I usually have 1 glass most nights...but I never go binge drinking...I don't think not drinking all week and then having more than a few on one night a week is a good thing at all...to me it would feel like I have undone an entire weeks work...what about vodka and soda water, ice and lemon?

soda water or diet tonic water?

Thanks. Would the drink be strong with either of these ? Not a fan of a strong vodka.

1 glass a night = 7 drinks a week  and I can bet some nights it's more than 1 glass :p surely that's worse!
On my chosen night I would have 5-8 drinks max. hardly binge drinking.

5-8 drinks on one night is far worse than one drink every night unfortunately.

One is classed an alcoholic when one has 4 units of alcohol or more per day.

I just don't see the need or point of having a glass of wine EVERY evening
I have a few drinks one night a week with Friends to socialize and unwind after working hard all week. I don't binge some weeks I might only have 2 or 3 drinks.
And I'm pretty sure wine wouldn't be the best to be drinking unless it's a really good quality red. Either way it can't be good to have one every night surly.

Some would have a single glass of wine per day for its health benefits.

You should think in terms of units. 5 vodkas is only about 2.5 pints worth of beer.

I have a really long post here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=57902740&postcount=10

in short diet mixers are the best option if calorie counting. But its really the fast food drinking often leads to that you should also be worried about.

I always mix mine with fresh lemon juice

Thanks il have a look at the post.

Not concerned about calories as such. More concerned about sugar and carb intake so diet mixers wouldn't be an option.

Would rather drink something that is 200 calories then something that is laced in sugars.

No, have to say I never go over the one glass but I couldn't have more than 3 glasses of wine on a night out - like 1 every 2 months or I'd be as sick as a dog and as for vodka I couldn't touch that stuff with a ten foot pole. I like the taste of wine, some people like the taste, fizz, coolness of beer and a kinda get a g&t but vodka to me mixed with anything...all I can taste is soury sweetness mixed with whatever the mixer is...I wouldn't find that enjoyable...But no, I would much prefer to look forward to my glass of wine with my dinner every night and enjoy it than have 5-8 in one night...I would be on the floor! But each to their own....

OP, do you like the taste of ginger? How about mixing the vodka with diet ginger ale (Tesco sells it)? If you add a squeeze of fresh lime juice, you get a Moscow Mule. Delicious! (If you really, really like the taste of ginger, you can also add some grated or sliced fresh ginger to the mix.)

Slimline tonic is very nice with vodka too, especially with a slice of lemon. Very refreshing.

Then there's fresh orange - not too calorific if you only add a splash - though personally I get chronic heartburn if I drink more than one of those.

Its incredibly more complex to define, this definition probably incorrectly identifies people as alcoholics as often as it correctly identifies them

That sounds like an option if having a few drinks in a freinds house. However I'd say I'd get a funny look from the bar man if I asked for it in a pub :P

Im gonna give the tonic a try this w.end. Was thinking of adding some sliced lime and lemon also :)

    I couldn't disagree more.

The body is catabolic when there is alcohol in your system. Therefore 1 glass of wine 7 nites a week = a catabolic state everyday as opposed to a catabolic state on only one day.

Obviously there's health benefits to wine but i think a bottle 1 night a week is definitely better than spreading 2 bottles over a week.

I think most pubs would sell ginger ale - people drink whiskey and ginger (also yummy). You'd just ask for a vodka and ginger instead...I appreciate that requesting a Moscow Mule in a proper boozer might get you a funny look. :p

    Any reference link to this?

Going by that statement if somebody has a half pint of 4.7% lager (e.g. miller) with their lunch, and a single pint of the same with their dinner they are an alcoholic.

I also expect many alcoholics do not drink every day, I know of one who would give up for lent.

Heres what i did for a while,

    Drink whisky straight.

Takes a little bit of getting used to. BUT, slows down the speed you drink the whiskey - as opposed to whiskey and coke which is too easy to drink for example.

taking away the mixer makes it easier on the stomach for me too.

Explain what you mean by catabolic in that scenario.

That is nowhere near the definition of an alcoholic

    Agree. It's complete nonsense.

An alcoholic is somebody with any sort of alcohol addiction or dependency. There's no volume based quota. Or frequency. Somebody might not have drank in years, yet still be an alcoholic.

I've switched from lager and wine to vodka and have a similar one night a week 4/5 drinks routine. So far it's working and I have been losing 1/2 - 4lb a week with diet and exercise.
I find diet coke in vodka makes me feel really ill the next morning, the stuff is toxic.
If I'm watching every calorie then I have vodka and slimine tonic with lime but my fave is to add some pink grapefruit juice or pink grapefruit hi juice to the vodka and tonic. Yum.
