Bought a TV yesterday with the fta built in. Couple of years since I actually watched Rté one it is just ****e and much better stuff on sky, anyway I turned it on there about an hour ago. Same Fianna Fáil propaganda crap about Ray McSharry "oh former minister you are so great". Can remember a few years ago they had a chat show on in the afternoons were Bertie Ahern was a guest kissing and hugging an old granny on her birthday. Beside the fact they are all overpaid Fianna Fáil fan boy, some even abuse drugs, living off our license fee. Nationwide is still the same ****e since I last watched it. I ain't interested in some sheep shearing festival in Tralee or some crap pottery exhibition in Mallow. Introduce regional variations if those in rural Ireland want to make saints of their politicians or whatever then they can watch whatever they want on their own localized versions. Feel sorry for the urban population putting up with programs like these. Deleting it from the lineup.

Had Sky, heap of crap, got rid of it. Have all the free to air channels Challenge TV,BBC, ITV, E4, Channel 4, Film Four etc. There is not a thing on sky. Used to like comedy central but just downloaded every tv series and play em off a media player. Rte one and Two are very good stations, Network 2 is brilleant in HD for sport

TO answer the question in the topic line - RTE or was it NTL briefly flirted with regional opt outs for local news someone will have to refresh my memory. This would be about 12-14 years back I'd say

Scotland has regional variations on STV (does Grampian Television still exist ?), if you want to compare like for like. There is also Border Scotland in the south of the country.

No variations on BBC1 Scotland though.

Is there still a Cork service for RTE Radio 1 ?

No, it was scrapped about a decade ago.

There are 3 STV versions on satellite - one for north of Scotland (formerly Grampian) and one each for Glasgow (STV West) and one for Edinburgh (STV East) which split only AFAIK during the evening news. As you say there is also Border which covers south of Scotland as well as very north west of England.
