Fujitsu 15.6" laptop with a 2nd gen Core i3 2310M, 4 GB RAm and a 320 GB HDD for €393 at LD. Also boasts up to 7 hrs battery life. 40 yoyos will buy you an extended 3 yrs warranty.

The Intel HD3000 integrated graphics will play full HD video, no problem. Not suitable for gaming though.

Comprehensive review here (Note: the model in the test had an Nvidia GPU so discard the references to gaming performance).

You're looking at a first generation Core i3 processor.

Also, the GMA HD graphics in the 1st gen Core i3 is inferior to the HD3000 in the 2nd gen Core i3.

OK deals @ Powercity but beyond your budget... unless you have decided to spend more. ;)

The Lenovo at Argos seems to be a 1st generation Core i3 370M.

    Thanks

i keep strecthing my budget, my excuse is i won't have to replace it as quickly......
when you go in with a 400 euro budget to argos, harvey norman , pc world or dell it very quickly rises to 500+ when they start mentioning 3 year warranties and virus protection.
ideally my laptop budget should factor these in but then id only have 300 euro to spend and thats rubbish.

think ill be brave and by something for 400 ish , no 3 year cover and sort out virus protection somewhere else. although my last laptop broke down after 15 months..........

thanks a mil for yor advice

The best you can hope for in an Irish B&M store would be a 1st gen Core i3 in the low 400. No extra warranty. Don't bother with purchasing antivirus protection, just get MS Security Essentials, it's free.

Seriously, consider the Fujitsu at LD for €393 as the best offer within your budget, add €39 for 3 yrs warranty. That's as good as it gets (unless you don't mind a German keyboard, then go to computeruniverse.net where they have better deals).

Why are warranties recommended so much on this forum? There is pleny of consumer protection aside from extended warranties in this country and the EU as a whole.

Also OP, don't buy any anti-virus whatever you do. Download Microsoft Security Essentials for free.
