Chalets for the 2013 season

There is a group of 15 or so of us going snowboarding/skiing. A decent mix of abilities from beginners to park junkies. Every year so far we've gone to France, places like Chamonix/Val Tho/Avoriaz etc, always staying in the (fairly crappy) apartments.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of renting chalets in France ( a week long trip). We know it'll cost a bit more but as long as it is coming in around a grand all in with flights (200ish) lift pass (200 ish) transfer (50ish), so 500/600ish pp for accom.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences of good chalets in decent areas.

Having never gone the chalet route, do they encompass just accom, or is it accom and food etc. We're not pushed about having breakfast and dinner in it, we're mainly just looking for a bit more comfort.

    Thanks in advance.

From looking at prices etc, I'd say the English companies will offer a high standard at lower cost. You'll see some companies (Rude chalets etc) which aren't the usual 'luxury' option, but the chalets are contemporary and well kitted out. Be aware though! All the best options are booked quite far in advance. So I'd get on it asap!

I would suggest that you might look outside France, as the french do seem to specialise in stuffing as many people in as small a space as possible. Austrian b&b's tend to be very good, with plenty of room. Otherwise you could try http://www.homeaway.co.uk/France/Rhone-Alpes/r367.htm just remember it's caveat emptor when it comes to dealing with private owners.

We used Highlife last year, and all things considered, it was ok (Morzine) I do think it's very overpriced and you'll definitely get much better value and the same level service from UK operators. I wouldn't use them again - way too expensive for what you get.

I've been with Skivo 2 a few times. Always had a great experience.
