What do I do?

I'm shaking as I type this, I've just heard that someone has beaten a dog for apparently chasing cats. The thing is it wasn't this particular dog it was one of the others (a newer dog) and even at that, this was not deserved at all. The person that did this is related to the dog's owner and undertook this attack in from of several adults and a lot of young children. All of whom told him to stop repeatedly.
Normally I would have no hesitation in reporting this kind of behaviour, however it's my oh's family and only family witnessed it. So if I did report it it would be fairly obvious who reported this. Now there is no love lost between us, but it's still family.
I know the dog is okay, albeit a bit shaken - but what do I do???

All you can do is report it.

If the dog has been beaten like you said it will almost certainly happen again. Report the bastard.

Reprt him and say NOTHING to him or anyone else in the family. It could be anyone who reported him especially if alot of people saw it happen. He needs to be reported..poor dog :(

I agree with boiledsweets, they can't prove it was you (unless they read it on here) it's the right thing to do.

I agree that it should be reported anonymously, but do make sure not to give your name, I've heard of so many cases where the dog warden or SPCA inspector gave the name of the person who complained to the person who had mistreated the animal, disaster!

In your position, ie if it was a member of my husbands family, I would report it without hesitation. Frankly I would tell them I reported it and give them a piece of my mind as well but that's just me and I'm pretty sure none of my husbands family would do that in the first place. But when it comes to things like that, blatant animal abuse, I couldn't hold myself back.

I guess my main problem is that I have no proof that it happened.
If the dogs looked mistreated then I would have no probs. Think I might talk to the animal welfare in the morning to talk through it.
If I'd seen it I would have rang them there and then - family or not, but I didn't see it.
