Now that I have my iPhone 12 I'm passing my iPhone 4 to someone else. However my iPhone 4 is a jailbroken 5.1.1

If I do a restore will I only be able to restore to iOS 6? I'd prefer to keep the iOS 5.1.1 with the jailbreak. (I'll be taking the handset back for my own use from time to time) Handset is factory unlocked.

    Cheers

6 can be jailbreaked too using redsnow, its only tethered at the moment though.

Make sure you download 5.1.1 to your desk top.open iTunes hold the shift/alt key then press restore a window will open up double click on 5.1.1 job done

Apple has indeed stopped signing older firmware below 6.0. To restore or downgrade you will need to have your SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.1.1 plus the appropriate iOS firmware on your computer. You can then use redsnow to create a custom IPSW with your SHSH blobs stitched in which can then be used to do custom restore in itunes.

An untethered 6.0 jailbreak is hopefully just around the corner :)

Don't do a restore, just clean the phone by erasing content and settings.

Using the "erase all content and settings" option on a jailbroken iDevice can and usually does cause the device to go into a constant restart loop. If that happens you will have no other option than to do a complete restore using itunes.
