I stayed at the easyHotel in Berlin a couple of years ago — very cheap and clean (though a bit impersonal). Some staff spoke good English. Transport was plentiful and efficient. Can't comment on what to see (I wasn't there for a holiday).

I stayed at the Generator hostel. It's a bit far out but it's good for parties etc.

You could be passed that stage though. I don't know. There is a nice hotel just beside Brandenburg gate. I'm not sure the name of it but it was in the news a few years back because Michael Jackson dangled a baby off of one of the balconies.

I really liked Berlin. Great atmosphere about the place. I would reccomend to take the Sandemans walling tour on the first day. It's shows you quite a bit and gives you a bit of history. It is also free so you only tip them if you liked it.

Look into apartments here.. The rail network around Berlin is very handy to use and get used to.

As for things to see. Take a bus tour and hop off at all the major spots. Checkpoint Charlie, the Gate, Holocaust memorial etc... A lot of places are within walking distance of other sites.

Hey, Park Inn at Alexanderplatz is excellent, have stayed there several times- central, near to everything U-bahns etc, cheap enough and bar/ viewing platform on the 40 th floor.

    Hi,

    I love Berlin!

If you are flying in with Aer Lingus, staying somewhere around Alexanderplatz is best. Its very central and there is a direct train from every 30mins the airport to Alexanderplatz for under 5EUR.

From there you can walk via 'Unter den Linden' to the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate etc.

Not to sure how low your budget is but I like to stay here

Considering its soo central its a great place for very good money. Obviously not as cheap as a hostel. But good value for a hotel.

I can highly recommend these guys here for a tour

Do this on day one...get your bearings and go off on your own the next days. The all-in-one tour is great.

They meet at the TV tower on Alexanderplatz just a stone throw from the hotel.

    Have Fun!

Have stayed at the wall street park plaza and the art hotel at wallstrasse...both nice, not the cheapest but you can get good deals on occasion. We also stayed at the ivbergs premium which is near the KaDeWe. Its a decent quality hotel and we got a great deal on it via hotels4u.com

Hotel rooms in Berlin have a reputation of being small so be prepared for that.

Using the u-bahn can mislead you into thinking things are quite far away from each other but actually most things in city centre are accessible by foot. Having said that I recommend buying the Berlin welcome card...you can buy it online and it includes train and bus travel. You collect it at the info desk at the airport. Makes things very handy and you get money off entry to lots of places. http://www.visitberlin.de/en

Do the insider walking tour...really excellent - the guy we had was fantastic. I wouldn't bother with checkpoint Charlie cos its not even in the right place! It really is for the benefit of gullible tourists! Instead visit the pergemon museum...even if you are not into museums this is amazing.

Rather than take the tourist bus, get a good guide book and use your bus and rail ticket and get the normal bus....can't remember now what number but it goes from beside the reichstag and it does exactly the same route as the tour bus and with your bus ticket you can hop on and off as much as you like.

Ah poor Blanket! lol but just to make OP aware the hotel you mentioned is one of the most expensive hotels in Berlin ...definitely not suitable for someone on a budget

I've stayed in H2 in alexanderplatz and I found it to be cheap but of a very high cleanly standard. Free ipads to mess with in reception and really helpful staff. Near all the central lines of transport. Well worth looking into.

If you just want somewhere cheap and cheerful to sleep then the Ibis near Alexanderplatz will sort you out.

The Park Inn is nice if you get a good deal - great views from corner rooms.

Transport links are excellent. Get a three day pass in the airport and don't forget to validate it on the platform.

The Christmas markets usually kick off in early November so can you hold off til then?

There's so much to see and do so enjoy yourself.

Yeah, good hotel in a great location. One thing that mightn't suit everyone though is that some of their rooms have ensuites with glass walls. As in totally see through with a narrow frosted strip about half way up. Weird at first but you do get used to it.

A lot of the Park hotels in the chain have this - in fact several chains in Berlin seem to have either a glass cubicle in the room as the ensuite, or the sink and shower are practically in the room and the toilet is the only part of the ensuite with a door! Odd to say the least. Might not be an issue if you are with your partner a while, but if its a romantic break or a couple of mates sharing it could be a bit weird.
