Council won't give my C1 back.

    Hello lads,

I've a small problem. I lost my licence a while back and applied for a duplicate licence. I got it in the post yesterday and it only has the B category on it, my C1 is missing.

I passed my C1 in England 2 years back and I exchanged it for an Irish licence a year ago when I came back home. Provided a medical report and I got my C1+B on an Irish Licence. No problems.

I then rang the council and they said as they have no record of me having a C1 so they won't give it to me. It's stupid, I got the licence through the same motor tax office. I'm now paying for their incompetence. I need my licence for work etc..

    Any advice? :(

Would you have provided a copy of your old licence to anyone, most likely an insurer, but even a bank etc? Perhaps they could return a copy to you and you'd have some proof.

Its up to them to maintain their records so it is the height of incompetence for them to not have the up to date records.
It might sound drastic but I would immediately record my displeasure by way of solicitors letter given that they appear to have unlawfully withdrawn your truck licence. I would also be stating (if true) that this is affecting your work and that you will be seeking to recover all losses from them should the situation not be resolved immediately.
I remember I lost a provisional licence at one stage. Same sh1t for the council. They said I never had a licence and wouldnt entertain the idea that they might have lost the record of it. I eventually found the licence which lead to some red faces and silly excuses.

I've a copy of my UK one, but not my Irish one. They wan't the original if I've to change it again. Which is funny as I surrendered the UK one to them. Incompetent gobshites

They would have sent yours back to the DVLA in swansea. Contact them and ask them to confirm with shannon. I know its a total cock up and hassle for you, but I cannot see how else they will do it.

When you changed your licence did you get an Irish digital tachograph card? If so show them the tacho, and ask them how you got a tacho without a c1 licence.

Also if you have an Irish tachograph it will have your driving licence number on it and the tacho people will have asked for a photocopy of your licence when you applied for one. Ask them if they can give you a copy of your licence and go back to the council with that

It's freightning, but it looks like that motor tax offices are getting worse and worse day by day.
Sorry to hear about your problem OP.

No, I was driving an exempted class here in the Republic. I never drove professionally in the UK, only passed the test there and came back to the republic a couple of months after. Hoping one of the organisations that wanted a photocopy of the licence still have it.

Going to write a strongly worded letter tomorrow, this is just taking the piss.
