Email - Mozilla thunderbird

    Hello, hope this is right area to post this...

    anybody out there use Mozilla Thunderbird email?

    i cannot seem to get it to work, spent many hours trying to configure, it could be something to do with my ports.

    could someone please tell me what to do!

    I use it every day. You should only need the server that your email comes from, the port, your username and your password to set up an account (and possibly the SMTP server details for sending email).

    You must configure your account settings manually. T'bird's automatic wizards make a complete balls of it. Usually it's port 25 for the outgoing mail server (SMTP), port 110 for the incoming mail server (POP3). IMAP is a different story.

    Alternatively, try Koma-Mail. A portable version is also available.

    ok thanks, i changed the ports to 110 and 25 like suggested, however now it states that it does not recognise my password! even though it matches the one on my mail server.

    any advice welcome.

    You're probably using encryption, change the security settings. Most common would be "None" and "Password, transmitted insecurely" for the incoming mail sever:

    and "No authentication" for the outgoing mail server:

    If that fails, contact your email provider for their exact server settings.
