Have rarely watched movies online but thanks to a recent medical issue I will be spending a lot of time in bed over the coming months. Not a fan of Netflix. Are there better alternatives? Subscription would be better than a pay as you watch deal but I'm open

iTunes and Amazon are the other two big players. I haven't used either but I think both are available here. I think the selection is limited compared to the US, and they're both pay per watch afaik, but worth checking out anyway.

If you want subscription streaming, Netflix is the only show in town I'm afraid.

If you're into arthouse, classic and independent cinema, Mubi offers a limited selection that is worth subscribing for a month or two. There's definitely at least twenty or thirty fantastic films on there, plus a lot of world cinema I can't vouch for but surely offers plenty of gems. The catalogue doesn't justify payment every month, but I usually pay for a month once or twice and year and don't regret it.

Not sure I've heard of that one, how much is the subscription fee?

    http://mubi.com/

    €2.99/film or unlimited for €7.99/month. They've a 14 day trial.

A bit niche maybe, but if you like documentaries or unusual indie films http://dogwoof.tv/ do some really interesting stuff you can stream.

You can get it on PS3 as well, but the quality is only SD. Tends to be close to DVD quality for newer releases, although lower for some of the more obscure stuff.
