Ryder Cup - why do I need to see the players' wives and girlfriends

They are paraded out before the players and sit on the stage. I remember a few years back when the wives and girlfriends wore matching outfits. Sickening. By all means be there to support. I don't think the Kilkenny and Galway players will be with their wives and girlfriends matching around Croke Park this Sunday. I just find it odd.

I know Mayo have problems with Croker but do they have to turn up when they arent even playing!

Trying to compare the world event that is the Ryder cup and the GAA is an odd one from you and to call it sickening is well just weird

Scarlet for them that the planes flew over a few minutes after the Jordan Sparks killed sang the Star Spangled Banner.
    Timberlake was cringeworthy as MC.
Bring on the golf tomorrow - I'm starting to feel unwell already. Might last in work until around 11. Cough cough.

Lovely looking but of the greatest sporting tournaments in the world, no other puts the wives and girlfriends on such display.

On the point of matching outfits, by all means having matching clothing on the golfers while on the course to distinguish the teams and create rivalry etc but why do they need to have matching tour bags and even head covers and who pays for all this matching equipment and clothing which is only valid for one weekend? Also I saw in one of the photos Ollie had his own tour bag with his name embroidered onto to but I didn't even think he was playing as captain?

Also why do they need to have so much vice captains? Surely one captain is sufficient to manage 12 players and not have so much vice captains hovering around trying to add something.

I think it's so the Captain can get news from around the course .

OP , I agree , I find this nonsense with the WAG's tiresome in the extreme . I actually think this helped cause the hysteria a few years ago when the green was invaded etc.

I'd agree with the vice-captain sentiment. Captaincy of the Ryder Cup is the most overblown, overstated role in sport. Adding a plethora of vice captains to the mix just extends it even further.

I guess it's all to do with the traditions & protocol involved in Golf.

All a bit outdated really and should be shelved. along with a lot of other things in Golf. I mean, scoring and penalising yourself, how stupid is that? Imagine the Man U v Liverpool game last week being allowed to do that, chaos.

What was it that attracted you to the millionaire golfer Jason Dufner?

That happened to me for Celtic Manor 2010 when the singles were on the monday. The one time I actually needed SkyGo and it wouldn't work, presumably because of the massive demand. Still not fixed then.
