Paypal and Gumtree

Hi all,

Last week Saturday I purchased a graphics card from gumtree.com that's the UK site.

I spoke to the seller about it and he came across as a nice guy.

I asked for proof that it works and he sent me an image of the gpu on his system. I was satisfied with this.

Anyway I told him that I am based in Ireland so I'd offer him 65 all together including shipping.

I paid on Saturday evening as the nearest post office to him opened on a Sunday from 9 to 12.


So on that Sunday he said it has been shipped and I should get it by Wednesday, this week.

I asked for tracking ID and he said he spend just under 5pounds on it so he doesn't have tracking ID.

On Wednesday it didn't show up today as well it has not arrived.

I have sent him 3 emails and no responses.

What are my options here ?

Sometimes standard airmail from the UK can be very slow fingers crossed that's all it is though, give it until Monday and open a PayPal dispute then if there's no sign of it

Thanks for the reply, I just came back home and the graphics card didn't arrive today.

What worries me is that I have emailed the seller and I have gotten no replies from him.

I presume you didn't send the payment as a gift? Open a dispute now if your worried and if there's no sign of it by Monday or response from the seller escalate to a claim and let PayPal deal with it, it should be with you by then at the latest.

He's going to have to provide proof of delivery which he doesn't have so you'll get your money back from PayPal.

I have just opened a dispute now and if it doesn't arrive on Monday I will escalate this to a claim.

A Dub in Glasgo

I had items take a week to get from Glasgow to Dublin. What are you going to do if you get your refund and the card turns up?

I would say that the fact that the seller in question was advertising on Gumtree and is now not replying to emails since receiving the money is dodgy enough to assume that the seller is a scam artist.

The main issue is the not getting and the secondary issue is not replying my emails.

This is my 2nd time buying from gumtree uk, first was an CPU, the seller and I sent emails regularly till I paid then after sending the goods we sent emails to see if theres any problems.

But for this seller we kept communication very well prior to payment and after payment on Saturday we sent about 2 emails then on Wednesday upwards till today no word from him.


For all we know he could have sent it late or sent on time but I havent recieved or didn't send it at all.

But me not hearing from him is giving me concern as most scammers receive the money and ignore you.


If the item shows up this week, I'll be delighted but still scold the seller for not replying my emails or for not getting in touch.
