    Hi,
I have a record 10 group(2008) and the front derailleur is acting up!!
the limit screws are fine, derailleur height is good also changed the cable so its not that.

When i shift up its only OK(the derailleur dose not move in line, the very top moves out first and it seems the chain gets dragged up rather than pushed up) and when i shift down its very slow,as if the derailleur doesn't have the strength to push the chain off the ring it finally shifts when i knock off the power,is it possible that the spring is shagged??and i need a new derailleur???

Please help me if you can.
    Thanks

Have you change the cables recently? Worn out and gunked up cables can cause a reduction in shift quality.

yes i changed them thinking it would rectify the problem but it didn't.could it be the shifter????my brain is fried from it!!

In that case, I'd say either the mech or the shifter need to be serviced.

Possibly the FD cage is slightly rotated wrt the chain line. My experiences of FD adjustment of late have been that it is easier to disconnect everything and start from scratch using the campag FD adjustment manual rather than tricking about with the cables attached. Could be worth taking it off altogether in case there's a bit of grit or dirt in the spring. That said, I'm on a cheapy campag comp triple, so YMMV.

I have '08 Record and the front shifting is a tiny bit woolier than it used to be quite simply because the carbon outer plate is worn very thin. Time for a new one. I've got a good innings from it. Have a look at the plate and see how it looks.

Something like this happened to my centaur front mech 2 yrs ago, i just sprayed lots and lots of wd40 on it especially around the pivots, then let it dry and gave it a good cleaning, then i put lots and lots of lube on it and kept moving it in and out and then put some more lube on it and it's been working like a dream ever since.

I know the in and out bit and more lube could be taken up wrong but it does work so to speak !

If the derailleur is in good order, the housing new/nearly new and the shifter pulling and releasing cable smoothly you could check out the routing as it passes under the BB if it goes through the frame - can suffer from crud contamination and cause iffy shifting.

I'd concur with what smacl says above. Disconnect the cable and check the position of the front mech. Ensure it is the correct distance above the chain ring and the inner cage is also parallel with the chainring.

They seem to be very sensitive to how their setup!

I will 3rd the 'remove the cable from the mech and start again' frame set.
Disconnect the cable from the mech.
Pull the cable tight by hand and move the thumb shifter last click then then finger shifter to the max then all the way back down again. Any drag on the cable should become apparent.
Now try and shift the mech by moving it with your hand.
I found when working on Astra Monti's (albeit 11 speed) that if I tailed the back of the cage ever so slightly in towards the frame so that the rear of the cage makes contact with the chain a fraction before the main body of the mech does when going from big ring to small ring.
When in the small ring make the height of the outer cage is just about clearing the big ring then add about .5mm extra

Make sure you reset the limit screws by adjusting them very slightly till you have just about enough clearance in big ring and 11 or 12 or whatever you have at the bottom of the cassette.
Re do the the setting as in the small ring and 23 or 25 or whatever you have at the top.
Pull the cable as hard as you can by hand and reattach the cable to the mech
making sure first the thumb shifter is all the way down to the last click on the shifter.
As mentioned above setting the campy mechs can be finicky and any cable stretch or even slight drag on the cable can upset the shifting.

Do you have access to another mech that you can try?
