http://www.fixyourstreet.ie/ - the site now covers FCC.
    The FCC home page says:
Report problems online at www.fixyourstreet.ie: Graffiti, Illegal Dumping & Littering; Street Lighting, Roads & Footpaths, Water & Drainage and Tree & Grass Maintenance.

I've been waiting for this site to cover FCC for a long while. I've got a list of issues to report...

My dad reported a watermain with an uneven cover on a residential street in Roselawn, D15 last night by email at 9pm - and to his utter amazement found two workers and cones there at 7am this morning!

    Coincidence?

Hmmm Just wondering who runs this website? Is it a non profit organisation? Is it a government agency?

Was wondering the same thing, no detail in the "About. It looks like the site design is American (some Americanisms in the text etc.). Presumably just an open front end for the CoCos to use.

I wonder if these requests get prioritised over somebody ringing a problem in (for example)? The ability to track a request is good, but I'd prefer if the requester could pass/fail the repair.

No it's been broken since the snow in 2010....they also did the neighbours.

I think this is a great initiative, I'd like to see FCC being more proactive on the response front (as per SDCC), Lighting seem to have embraced the service but its not clear if other departments are fully onboard, time will tell...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,719 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

I wouldnt be holding this up as the great white hope, the Council have always taken complaints directly via email for the various Departments and Ive found them quite good at responding to simple things in the past, but if its something complicated or resource heavy dont expect it to be dealt with just because you reported it through this new portal, the budgets are barely keeping skeleton cover in some services.

But it should help with acountability and with the small stuff which builds up
    ie the broken window theory.

I take the point that FCC aren't exactly overstaffed at the moment but one would have assumed that they considered the resourcing aspect before agreeing to sign up to the service?

Lighting seem to have embraced the service
It's easy for them as sub contract out the work. :p

At least the IT dept are on board! The fact that they've integrated input from the site into their CRM system is promising - assuming messages are being picked up and acted upon at the far end.
Dominic Byrne, A/Head of IT with Fingal County Council, said: 'We have been working closely with the other local authorities to develop a seamless integrated system where problems reported on Fix Your Street are fed directly to our CRM system, and we're delighted that this is now live for members of the public to use. 'We'd encourage everyone to please add as much information as possible when reporting an issue, as this helps our staff locate the problem and address it much quicker.

Edit: comment from Councillor Dennisons website is not particularly promising, however.
Please understand that availing of this system does not mean your street will actually be fixed.

Probably just badly phrased, "does not mean your street will actually be fixed". What does that even mean ?

It's obviously just a catch all disclaimer.

Exactly, if they cannot respond to a phone call, why would this be any different ;)

To be fair, everytime I've rang Fingal about a few issues such a broken street lights they had the crew out fairly quickly to fix it.

Might not be as good now because of all the tight gits refusing to pay their household charges so there's no money in the coffers. ;-)

Well it has worked a treat for me....logged an issue re our road signage this day last week as it was illegible and Fingal engineers are out there now replacing the old signage with brand spanking new ones!

I put in a couple of reports on the website the other day, but they havent shown up in the list of reports. I assume someone is weeding out the ones they dont want to/cant deal with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭Orobhsa

The mapping showing location of reports is a bit suspect.

I reported a broken tree in my estate. It doesn't show on the overview map but if I use the category filter to show Tree and Grass Maintenance reports in the neighbourhood then it appears under the additional reports.

Tree is still broken and report has no response.:(

It is worth contacting the site about them.

The reports are moderated. One of my reports was edited because I referenced the name of a (former) FCC employee (it wasn't in a negative context).

None of my reports have any acknowledgement.

You can also submit your report via FixMyStreet - it submits the report to Fix Your Street.

    Another thumbs up from me.

Reported a non-working street light Tuesday, the lads have just left after replacing the bulb this morning.

I reported another issue regarding crash damage to fencing, obviously something that will be much more expensive to fix so I'll see how that goes.

FixMyArea.com covers all of the city and county councils in the country, as far as I know. I think how effective they are depends a bit on what council you're dealing with, but I've put a couple of issues up in South Dublin and they've been fixed. They've also got an iPhone and Android app, which are bloody handy for reporting issues when you spot them.

kelleher said today that if the system was succesful it could leave very little to do in the area committee meetings,

but dennison makes a plea to keep the clientism going.
Please understand that availing of this system does not mean that your street will actually be fixed; for that you may need to contact your local councillor.

joan maher asked what about the phone, seeming to be not too familiar with the current CRM for dealing with maintenace issues etc, she seemed a bit reactionary, but it is interesting that issues that are raised in the area meetings can be read online and now those on fys too but not the ones through the phone, would be interesting to see a report with numbers on what and how complaints are dealt with before fys kicks in.

I've posted about 15 reports since October 1st. I have not seen any acknowledgement of any of them. I am disappointed.

link to a few of them, lets see, you say you had list of issues, you could have just picked up the phone, although we don't do we :)

FixYourStreet.ie allows me to submit photos and mark the location on a map.
Marking it on the map is more accurate and easier than trying to explain the location to someone unfamiliar with the area. I can give a thorough description that would be ignored or incorrectly summarised by someone taking notes over the phone.

It also allows me to submit the reports at a time that is convenient to me, which is generally very late at night.

:/ bush trimming might take a couples of weeks to happen but they should acknowledge and add your issue to the schedule within 2 days, maybe tweet/email fixyourstreet and fingal coco, to make sure thats happening.
