    actually I'm sure it is...

I have no ariel on my TV as I use Sky all the time. I've got a new Freeview box which I'd like to use, not necessary for extra channels but because I can watch AVI files on it through a USB connection. I can also record onto a USB stick.

My question though is, do you need to have an ariel to recieve digital channels or is the box enough just plugged in. I'm being too lazy to plug it in and I don't want to unpack it unless it's worth it.

    Thanks!

Depends what you mean by 'Freeview' box (Freeview is actually the brandname for the UK terrestrial tv service). What's the make & model?

You don't need an ariel which is washing powder, an antique motorbike, a BBC staff newspaper, or the 4th biggest moon or Uranus. But you do need an aerial preferably outside above the roof.

You'll need a UHF aerial of some description with that box. As mentioned already, outdoor is best. You might get away with in-room types or attic.
