This is a colloquial name for Carrickgollogan. Any idea who Katty/Catty/Kathy Gallagher is? I can't find anything on Google.

This is a long shot, but the Irish name is Carraig Uallacháin. Any info on this Uallacháin person/family? Local knowledge is probably long gone by now.

    Grma.

Best source for the name is here:
    http://source.southdublinlibraries.ie/bitstream/10599/5234/1/ramble_book_fa.pdf

Page 41, which reckons its just a nickname due to pronunciation issues.

Otherwise local legend is that it was named for her after she took her life by jumping off in 1800s after attending a burial there. It is reputed to have been a 'wailing wall'. Also that the Bray pub took its name for same reason also.

My family has lived under that hill for generations and I never heard a story about any person called "Kathy Gallagher". I always understood it was just an Anglicised version of the Irish name, no more than that.
