can I change APD OFCH switch to digital...

Hi, I've an APD switch for OFCH. The on/off switch still works but the clock bit doesn't turn anymore. from reading the boards the general advise seems to be to change it for a digital one and Danfoss seem to be highly thought of.

I wondering if this is something i can tackle myself. At the minute on the wall I've the standard APD timer with the on/off/clock set up. Alongside that are two standard light switches, one that turns the ground floor rads on and off and the other that does the upstairs.

Any notions on the best way to go about that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Philip

If i was you i would unclip the timer from the mounting plate and take it along to a good plumbers mearchants and see if they have a direct replacement that will just clip back into your original mounting plate.

I presume your hot water is in whenever either zone is active.

You could (depending on your wiring) replace your existing timer and your two light switches with a dual zone timer like the Grasslin Towerchron QE2.

Where are your motorised valves? Can they be wired back to the boiler so that the boiler comes on when they are activated?

I think this will probably require an electrician unless you're really competent and the simple solution might be as Billy says, just to replace the existing timer.

Thanks for the advice, and apologies for cross posting. I've only just joined and have seen people ask similar questions in existing threads and thought this was what you did in the hope that one might be picked up. Having said that, while you might rightly think me a pain in the ass - I think people are too quick to think it's ok to be just plain rude on the internet where they wouldn't be in real life - it's why kids think cyberbullying is just a laugh...

This forum does then to have it's touchy folk, but do realize these are mostly professionals giving up their free time to help (for free)
and they are pretty tame once you get to know them! (they bark, they don't bite..usually)

My appologies if i appeared rude, i hadn't realised you were a new user because i was so busy running around topics here and on the DIY forum that i (and any other member who had posted on those topics)was receiving "notification of reply" to, and it also appears that the forum moderators were also very busy running around deleting them.
Without wanting to sound bullyish, may i respectfully suggest you spend 5 minutes reading this before posting further....
