I've stuck up for Wooly here from time to time because he can be a decent Gaelic Football analyst, he understands the modern game very well and seems to have good rapport for whatever reason with most players and managers(obviously a few exceptions here).

But my God what a pain in the hole he is in regards to absolutely every other aspect of the show, and somebody needs to tell him that no matter what your profession is, it isn't as cool as he seems to think to maintain a non-professional persona, maybe for a college radio station or something but not for a national broadcaster.

I'm not a fan of Diarmuid Ling at all... Same monotone voice, and his interviews are like something you would expect from a secondary school student... Ger did a great job keeping the show running when the other up and left, but he's letting the standards slip by not slowly replacing them with people who have serious journalistic credentials..

And what's this "OTB is now seven days a week".. So they are just renaming the weekend shows?

I get the impression that because he basically groomed McDevitt and Ken - he thought he could do it again with Joe and Parkinson.

Serious journalistic credentials is tricky territory and they could easily lose whatever remains of the cult following if they go down this road. Personally I think Malachi Clerkin is not bad, who else would there be (in Ireland)?

has woolly finished the journalism degree in DCU yet? i'm pretty sure i heard he had started it before he started working on OTB. how long has he been on OTB in total??
i may have been hearing things regarding the DCU thing though.

I think he's doing a Masters in DCU. He's been on the radio for a while now, he started out doing the Weekend Sports show.

Standards must be shockingly low in that course!

To say that he groomed McDevitt and Ken is giving him too much credit. Ger and Ken started out at the same time in Newstalk and Mcdevitt only really became part of OTB when Gilroy went off to present the Breakfast with Claire Byrne.

Daniel McDonnell has those journalistic credentials, the football show is pretty much a humour free zone when he is on, but I prefer that to the forced "craic" of Joe, Wooly and Ling

Whatever about Ken, Ger moulded Eoin in his own likeness and passed him the reins.

My understanding is that he has an editorial role now as well as presenting - I think its fairly clear he sees Joe as the new McDevitt who will take over as full time anchor pretty soon.

I don't think I've ever heard Daniel McDonnell speak on anything except soccer so couldn't see him in the role of anchor's sidekick which is the big problem position (Parkinson).

I don't listen very often at all anymore. I am 100% second captains listener first and foremost. Just to get that out straight away the rest of this can prob be taken with a pinch of salt.

I really only listen if I'm in the car now when it's on, but I get the impression the other members of the team think Parkinson's a great lad and hilarious. He has yet to make me laugh and contrary to people's views that he is a good football analyst, I think he is a knowledgeable football analyst. Little bit arrogant in some of his comments though and down right ridiculous on some others

Now just to be clear I don't listen often, that is just my opinion based on occasional listening. Ling is just the normal level of annoying, "wooly" takes it to a new league altogether. The nickname even annoys me.

I'm not sure about the moulded bit, but it was long time ago now and its all getting a bit hazy.

Daniel McDonnell has been doing a kind of Ken role on the Football Show the few times I've listened to it recently. He's OK.

Tomas O Se was just interviewed on Off the Ball.

At the end Parkinson says somethings along the lines of:

"You started playing the same year as me, Tomas"

And after they finished he said

"I beat him on a minor final".

The college radio presenter, with one Leinster Medal to his name manages to twist an interview with Tomas O Se (5 All Irelands, 9 Munsters, 5 All Stars, Players of the Year) about him.

    Fcuk off you tool Parkinson.

This is exactly where I am with new OTB also, its better than Game On.

Listening to tonight's show is painful tbh....why are Parkinson and Ling allowed to witter on endlessly about sports they clearly know very little about

They may be adequate GAA analysts but are out of their depth elsewhere and seem to try to link every subject back to GAA....eg. Suarez-Strurridge partnership? Sure isn't dat the same ting as Canavan and Mulligan for Tyrone in 2003...jesus wept. Reminds me of this

Yeah Ling is awful dull after a while. Completely monotone. Fair enough if they are there to talk about GAA, but they are not strong enough "broadcasters" to talk about other sports..

Dan McDonnell seems to be a fixture for the football hour now, he was sitting in on a Martin Lipton interview there.

Story about Harry being conned out of tickets and matchday hospitality by some Irish lad (who was pretending to be a jockey) in exchange for giving Harry betting tips is fantastic!

I'm sure that, like most football autobiographies, it is ghost-written. While some football people write their own books, Harry is the last I would expect to do so!

I stopped listening to Off The Ball when "the boys" left - only ever listened to the football part on podcast anyway, but I have started listening again and find it to be alright. It's not spectacular by any means, but Ger is a decent host and the contributors are perfectly fine, especially the foreign ones. Does anyone know what the Spanish song they play at the end is? Maradona is mentioned at one point.

lol, I've had a day like that as well...

Way too much Gizzy and Parkinson this week.. I know that Off The Ball is meant to capture the feel of being in a pub.. But this week I felt I was in the pub with Sil, Peter and Ned from the Gerry Ryan show...

I must be the only one but I kinda like Parkinson, I could see how he could get under your skin but I'm still finding him reasonably funny. Lyng is far worse imo, bland and doesn't add a whole lot.

Caught it last night first time in a while, never hear of the parky guy, but enjoyable show.

If it was either Wooly or Lyng for the door it'd certainly be Gizzy for me, bland is a good description for him alright,

Last nights show seemed to be a cracker, I was just dipping in and out with kids going to bed etc as usual but it was a hell of a lineup.

Very frustrating listening to this guy talking about the Alex Ferguson book.. He's barely able to string a sentence together.... "eh..... ehhh... ehh..".. I hope he's better at writing.
