So the Eoin Mc Devitt boyos haven't found another gig. But there's another fella trying to do his best at short notice. Live and let live. I think he's trying his best, and having to deal with negativity from the die hards. I think he's doing alright. The JNLR won't affect his figures for another few months.

I dont need JNLR numbers to know how this show is going

    As I have EARS

    It is tanking big time

By God, this show is gone sh*te

Ger and Joe sound like two lads who you sit down in a pub next to and they start to bore the boll** off you.

You suddenly either neck your pint and make your excuses to leave or go out for a smoke in HOPE of meeting someone that will not depress you

I personally don't mind Ger, but it's a different sort of show he presents when compared to the OTB lads. I quite enjoyed the weekend sports show with Get, but it would be a case that I'd listen to it only when I'm driving/washing car/etc. Whereas with OTB I would go out of way to listen and always have the podcasts (since unsubbed).

I'm sure the lads will all end up somewhere with a job, just curious if it'll be together.

According to Murph, himself, Mark Horgan & Eoin were playing football yesterday, Simon Hick had a case of loose bowels so had to miss (https://twitter.com/saveciaranmurph/status/324253995893919744). No mention of Ken though...

Its difficult to know how many listeners OTB has lost since the lads have left, its very interesting how many people on here have changed the way they listen to the show, in fact I cant find mentions saying the programme is as good or better than it was. Also if you look athe the loyalty towards the exOTB lads, even their twitter @thesecondcaptains has only tweeted 14 times yet it has nearly 9,000 followers , now if you make the assumption that many listeners have done the same as boards.ie members and switched off, as is clearly the case regarding the football show podcasts then the show will without a doubt have lost a good portion of its listeners.
I still think it'll be several months before you see a true reflection of the real figure because some listeners will give the show a listen for the first time given all the hype and others will stick with it for a bit and then drift away over time. Im predicting a 10% drop in listeners by the summer.

The new show is ok but its problem is that its just not OTB as we knew it. I listen to it on the way home from work but when I get home I don't switch it on in the house like I used to. I listened to the football show podcast on my walk but haven't bothered since the change in presenters. Hopefully the five lads can get something organised soon. Everyone is losing at the moment with the uncertainty surrounding them.

All the OTB podcasts have fallen out of the iTunes top ten podcast charts. The Football Show had been ever-present in that top ten for years.

    9th on the list now

i was just about to post this. listened to most of the show tonight, the rapport is getting better and better. found the bit about the kobe bryant pretty good too, i think it may be a good idea to get someone who knows more about certain sports than a jack of all trades like brian murphy was.

I tweeted the lads today asking for an update, Ken sent me a link to this video:

is it time for this thread to be split into talk about the show (in whatever incarnation) and then rumours of what the former presenters are up to?

the first 280 posts are about the show, and almost everything since is about what may or may not be happening with the old crew. they're gone. isn't it time we moved on......(and start a new thread for them whenever they come up with something new)?

Can't imagine there'd be much chatter in a thread solely about new OTB...

the first 280 posts took over 5 months. everything else has been in the past 6 or 7 weeks. i'd imagine it'd slowly go back to the old rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭KuriousOranj

Wasn't all that much chatter in this thread before the 5 left. Now it just seems to be a place for some to moan about how the show is different/not as good without the old team,or to specualte where the lads will wind up,which is getting a bit tiresome.

An OTB 2.0 thread (strictly about the show in its current format) wouldn't be a bad idea tbh.

But Gillette was never part of the imaging of the show - no jingles..etc, in fact it was hardly mentioned at all. In any case, the amount of money they would get from any sponsorship deal would by determined by the JNLR figures in the same way advertising revenue would.
It's actually reeeeally sad how I remember this but that Gillette sting has been played on the show since 2004 - August 30th to be precise, the night after the Athens Olympics finished. I specifically remember thinking to myself "ooh, I haven't heard that before".

    Jaysus, the song is brutal.

Well, you certainly have a better memory than me.:)

Has Adrian Barry started on the show yet? He was good craic on the Ray Foley show but he's left to go to OTB (as far as I remember).

I'm not sure he's going to OTB. He was talking on the RFS during his last week, and it sounded like he was going to NT more to be part of the sport department than to be on OTB.

Barry is going to work on the weekend sports show not OTB

Just checked out Game On there to check out the alternative to "New" OTB and it was some of the worst stuff I have heard in years.

Paul Kimage and David Walsh on, yet on the basis of the scripted questions - you would think the producers were unaware of their stance on Pat McQuade, Lance Armstrong etc.

It was unbelievable - Kimmage was asked whether he agreed or disagreed with the Irish cycling union decision to nominate McQuade, he replied that anyone who would have to think about the issue for more than 5 seconds was corrupt - even at this stage, the presenter didnt seem to know whether PK was agreeing with them or not.

Maybe RTE culture doesnt allow for controversial or radical ideas - the polar opposite of the "old" OTB.

Murph said on twitter nothing will be announced till they have all finished gardening leave, another six bloody weeks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 451 ✭✭armchair fusilier

Well he did say "very soon", so maybe it's not going to be the full 12 weeks. At least now it's fairly safe to say that they are definitely going to be back on air.

Lads. It's not the end of the world. And I find it very hard to believe that someone can afford to take all 5 of them on, so maybe try to adjust to the possibility that they may not be back together.....

Thanks for the advice Chris. You may well think that, but from someone who actually knows whats going on(i.e. Murph)...
Brendan Nestor ‏@brennynestor 18h @saveciaranmurph Well Murph! Any news on yr comeback with the boys? Starting to lose the will to live during the wk! pic.twitter.com/FWMAGmA0HY
Ciaran Murphy ‏@saveciaranmurph 18h @brennynestor ah here. The poor auld dog. Something announced very soon once we're all finished garden leave, thanks for the support.

    Sounds definite enough to me.

Why would he say that they are waiting for everyone to finishing gardening leave if that wasn't the case?

It's kind of suggested in the fact that they're not announcing anything until they're all done with their leave.

If they were splitting up, you'd think the ones that are already done with their leave would (if they have something) be announcing it ASAP to get into it.

But equally it could just be Eoin and some combination of the lads has something, or they have nothing and are just stalling.

Well ye're all acting like their show is gonna be transplanted as it was from Newstalk. So you're happy with just Eoin McDevitt going on air solo??????

I would be inclined to think they will be on air together. Horgan and Hick wouldn't have quit with nothing to fall back on, I'd say they had an alternative offer before they quit. It might be a slightly different show though and feature more aspects than just sport, as well as being in a different timeslot, I would think they have huge potential in a role like that.

If they do go back on air in a competing time to Off the Ball, that will be terrible for NT. Gilroy is a good presenter and even his support are doing well enough but it's nowhere close to what OTB was previously, in my view at least.

Again, some focus is needed: what station is going to employ 5 bodies for a potential audience of 39k? and with otb still on N/T that 39k will be fragmented - it would be very expensive programming
