Just listened back. That is a serious level of hectoring self righteousness. As someone else said, he's a complete bore and I do find it hard to listen to him at the best of times. Joe Molloy came across really well.

Did the same, sounded like an insolent child. Like a phone in caller on liveline on mad rant.

This was also shown back in the day when McCormack showed his abhorrence of Irish soccer fans outside a pub cheering customers coming from a lingerie store. I believe his tweet was 'stay classy lads'.

Yeah I think they let the mask slip at times. Like with Gilroy's "Brexit down the pub remark". The champions of equality in reality sneer at the working class.

The first thing that shot in to my mind when he had a go at Gary Neville's voice was "God, is he going to try to get Eoin Sheahan fired from the show". I find Eoin's voice hard on the ears at times, though he is the soundest and most down to earth of all of them. Remember the sketch with Risteard Cooper where he was playing Pat Kenny - he (as Pat) turned to Eoin Sheahan and said "you have a voice like a pneumatic drill". Which was swiftly pulled from the sketch the day after.

In fairness, I was over there when this happened and the majority of fans there thought these guys were ****. They weren’t football fans as such, more the event junkie types who go to Cheltenham, Rugby World Cup etc and dress up as leprechauns.

Are you talking about the people who were outside the shop making the scene?

Yes, the people outside Victoria Secrets cheering when girls walked out. ****.

Ah yeah. Nothing wrong with a group of Ireland fans celebrating their own team's defeat.

That was in the immediate aftermath of a World Cup game where Ireland were comprehensively beaten, idiots, but if you can relate to it then that’s saying something.

    Good man.

I have zero interest in rugby but it's par for the course with the event junkie brigade.

What did you make of Euro 2012 by the way? I'd say I was in the minority of people in the stadium that night who were embarrassed by the result against Spain.

As I said, not my cup of tea but I would say it's far more harmless than those guys making clowns of themselves outside the lingerie shop which was peak sport as stag do, PP-inspired and cringeworthy behaviour.

But sure whatever keeps you angry...

Is not being too bothered about the result not a standard rugby fan reaction though?
I’ve no interest in rugby so maybe not be the best judge but I used to do steward at Leinster & Ireland games and it was something I always noticed. It certainly doesn’t have the same intensity as football. It was a similar atmosphere win lose or draw.
It’s not for me but I’ve no issue with it and I don’t see that behaviour being anywhere near as bad as a group of lads surrounding a girl by herself checking to see what knickers she bought. They come out in their droves for tournaments or certain fixtures, you never see them in Georgia or Albania.

Ireland fans are reknowned for a 'Sure look, its only a bit of craic'.

Singing as being beaten 4-0 by Spain took that a bit far though.

Both Neville and sheringham seem to be absolute pricks

I hate United, but I like Neville as a commentator (which I thought I would never hear myself saying). Sheringham was always a bit like chocolate, but it's interesting to hear him. Wonder will they ask him about his relationship with Cole. I was always hugely surprised that Ferguson never nipped that issue in the bud.

There are some pretty bad Football pundits on OTB. Both Delanys, Giles, Kenny 'The Football Club' Cunningham, Graham Hunter (he'd be alright if he wasn't so smug) but the worst is Andy Mitten.

He just has this air of superiority like he has some key insider knowledge into Utd, get the impression he feels like he has some actual direct impact on Utd.

that's actually one of the most annoying things anyone on any form of media says!

I didn't take much notice before but someone on here mentioned how he always say 'The Football Club' and once I took notice there was no going back.

Not gone on Mitten as he basically only covers the club he supports. Daniel Harris is surely the worst though.

What an odd thing to say, How do you know? I was there that evening too and though they were dickheads but i've no way of knowing whether they go to many games or not.

I know from going to many games. Event junkies go to events.
Not a hope in hell would they take their stag party buzz to Moldova.

It's not hard to tell the event junkies who want to go viral on Joe.ie from the regular fans who go to Ireland games, home and away.

At Euro 2016 for example it was very noticeable at the France game that the stag party vibe had gone and it was more about the football, as most of the event junkies had just booked in for the group games and were gone home.

Remember finding it poignant a few months ago when Giles said he's afraid to answer the phone because he got bad news about a few ex-team mates this year.

Very sad. He always comes across as such a nice, decent and respectful man.

For what it's worth, his analysis of the Ireland game was poor both on OTB and with Dunphy.

I love Giles's reminiscences and reflections on the past, and that's how I think he should be utilised as it's pretty clear that he's not really up to analysing games any more.

    Yeah that was it.

I was in the car listening to it and it was just so unusual to hear a man of that generation be so open about something like that.

Put all my recent grumblings about not being able to go out for a pint in to perspective.

It's strange how 5 seconds of a conversation can have more of an impact on you than the daily updates of case/death numbers and the constant coverage of it on all media platforms
