    Hi All,

Sorry about the use of the word alternative. Couldn't think of anything better that would cover all bases. I'm trying to come up with a few more places to try out in Dublin. I also think this thread might help with the constant "where's good in Dublin" threads.

Places I currently head out to would be:

    Pymgalion
    Sweeneys
    Garage Bar
    The Bernard Shaw
    Twisted Pepper
    Bruxelles
    The Globe/Ri Ra
    Lost Society
    The Mezz
    The Mercantile
    Grogans
    Whealans
Fibbers (haven't actually been in years but it probably fits in this thread)

Any other places I should try out?

Workmans Club? Same owners as the Garage.

Ah yes I forgot the Workmans and the Dark Horse. Head to both of those a fair bit.

Have never made it into Sin E. Must give it a shot.

The Grand Social also belongs on this list

I second Thomas house, good Guinness, although can get very crowded. Not a place for a quiet pint.

Did Shebeen Chic ever open elsewhere?

I remember when they first vacated South Georges Street they were looking for a new plot.

I wouldn't really call it an alternative to coppers though ;) Pretty much the same type of crowd and music

Dicey's isn't an alternative to Coppers. That's like saying Flannery's is an alternative to Coppers.

Bruxelles on Harry Street is open late 7 nights a week too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,349 ✭✭✭✭starlit

What is the alternative to Coppers then??

    Is Flannery's not a pub?

The Odeon if it still open is a late bar alright but wouldn't recommend.
Kristals is expensive it near dicey's.

Is there not a place called dandelions or something off st stephen's green?

This thread seems a little confused.
OP, do you mean "places that are not Coppers" or "alternative" (to use that word) pubs and clubs?

I reckon its places that aren't there purely to listen to chart music, drink €2 drinks and get the ride (the last one is optional as its always an added bonus :p)

lol yeah I get you. Just some places mentioned are definitely not "alternative" in the way I understand it to mean.
Some good spots listed though. Plenty to choose from!

Agreed. I think the OP was looking for places that were opposite to coppers. So not mainstream dance music. Someone mentioned the odeon, which was a great bar but i think its still closed? Anyone heard anymore about the POD reopening? I remember flannerys were looking to open up something there.

Flannery's bought, afaik they're looking to open a 'Super-Club' there (ie Feckin huge)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Pandoras Twist

Just to clarify I wanted a list of places that are the opposite of coppers.

No rhianna/lady gaga/whoever the hell gets played on Spin 1038 these days. Preferably places where people don't have fake tan leaking out of their eyeballs, 5 inch heels and skimpy dresses.

Dicey's/Krystle/Dandelions definitely does not qualify. I'd rather stay home and polish the furniture than go to any of those.

I couldn't think of a better term other than alternative that wouldn't leave out certain places. Some great suggestions so far.
